Round two for flagship MLB, 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball provides the normal variety collectors have come to expect right around the start of summer.
Formats again include Hobby boxes with one autograph or relic, and Jumbo Hobby boxes that have one autograph, one relic and one manufactured relic. Like Series 1, special attention is given to MLB's 150th anniversary.
2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball Base
Tacking on 350 new cards to the base numbering established in 2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball, collectors can expect a fresh assortment of top players, current rookies and some team ballpark cards in Series 2.
The standard parallel lineup is available, including versions that feature the official 150th Anniversary logo.

2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball Inserts
Although the base set is largely more of the same concept from Series 1, the 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball checklist does sprinkle in some new elements among the inserts.
All falling under the 150 Years of Professional Baseball line, the past is remembered via Greatest Moments, Greatest Players and Greatest Seasons.
This time, the focus for the 35th anniversary 1984 Topps Baseball set moves to rookies and MLB All-Stars. Other carryover inserts include Evolution of, which debuts a technology theme alongside ballparks and team logos/uniforms. The Iconic Card Reprints insert is also back.
Now we get to the new in 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball. Faces of the Franchise displays a trio of players with one being a current star and the other two from the team's past. Significant Statistics highlights what Topps calls "a 'new' advanced statistic and its leader for 2018."
Retail-only inserts include Franchise Feats for active teams and Historic Through-Lines, which identifies two players from MLB history that have a connection.
Nearly all the inserts add 150th Anniversary (#/150), Red (#/10) and Platinum (1/1) parallels, as well.
2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball Autographs
Shuffling in the hits, many of which play on the inserts already mentioned, 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball does offer a large assortment of autograph options even though hits don't really drive the release.
The 1984 Topps Baseball Autographs set features rookie and All-Star signatures with 150th Anniversary (#/150), Gold (#/50 or less), Red (#/25 or less - Hobby) and Platinum (1/1 - Hobby/Jumbo) versions. The stat-based Significant Statistics Autographs insert is limited to 50 or less with Red (#/25 or less) and Platinum (1/1) parallels.
Zeroing in on the retrospective side of things, the Legacy of Baseball Autographs line takes a look across the decades with additional 150th Anniversary (#/150), Gold (#/50 or less), Red (#/25 or less ) and Platinum (1/1) versions. Rare Legacy of Baseball Dual Autographs cards are capped to five copies or less.
There are also 150 Years of Professional Baseball Autographs and Iconic Card Reprints Autographs cards numbered to no more than 25 copies, plus Cut Signatures (1/1).
2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball Relics / Auto Relics
Let's be real. If you get a Hobby box of 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball, you are probably going to pull a relic as your box hit. The most likely options include Major League Material or the retro 1984 Topps Baseball Relics. Both have 150th Anniversary (#/150), Gold (#/50), Red (#/25) and Platinum (1/1 - Hobby/Jumbo) parallels.
The new All-Star Relics cards have only 99 copies to go with Red (#/25) and Platinum (1/1) parallels.
Advanced stats are again on display with Significant Statistics Relics. These are numbered to 99 copies with Red (#/25) and Platinum (1/1) editions. A normal inclusion, one-of-one In The Name Relics cards display a nameplate letter.
Also a regular feature, 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball has manufactured relics. Hobby/Jumbo-exclusive designs include MLB Logo Golden Anniversary Patch and 150th Anniversary Commemorative Medallion cards. For retail, it's the 150th Anniversary Commemorative Patch cards. The manufactured relics all utilize 150th Anniversary (#/150), Gold (#/50), Red (#/25) and Platinum (1/1) parallels, plus Autograph versions numbered to 10.
Other auto relics in 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball include Major League Material Autographs and Significant Statistics Autograph Relics. These cards are numbered to 50 or less with Red (#/25 or less) and Platinum (1/1) parallels.
Finally, Topps Reverence Autograph Patch cards provide a high-end element to flagship Hobby and Hobby Jumbo boxes. Numbered to just 10 copies, parallels include Red (#/5) and Platinum (1/1).
