2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball Variations Checklist and Gallery
Helping kick off the new MLB card season with short prints for flagship players, the 2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball variations continue the annual image chase.
Swapping photos for select subjects in the main 2019 Topps Series 1 checklist, the 2019 Topps Series 1 variation cards have an easier SP group and a much tougher SSP set.
2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball Variation Set Details
Since the variation list was not provided by Topps, it is compiled manually as cards show up. The total variation list includes 100 cards. The 2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball variations appear to line up with previous years, including 2018.
Based on what we have seen, the SP images tend to be more casual shots away from the active playing field, but there is rarely a consistent theme across the board. The Red Carpet Show images stand out because of the bright backdrop and casual clothing. Some also flip the layout orientation from the base card.
SSP cards are for the retired greats and completely replace the base subject.
2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball Variation Pack Odds
For the main SP cards, odds are 1:15 packs for Hobby but these do not appear to be in Jumbo formats despite what the wrapper shows. SSP falls at 1:444 packs for Hobby and 1:495 packs for Jumbo.
That's not to say the variations are only in Hobby/Jumbo boxes. Early variation cards surfaced thanks to Retail formats releasing about a week ahead of the official Hobby date of January 30. For Walmart Blaster boxes, it's 1:39 packs for SP and 1:1,160 packs for SSP. Walmart Hanger odds offer 1:20 packs for SP and 1:574 for SSP.
2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball Variation Codes
While the most obvious difference is the image on the front, the CMP code is again a viable option to identify the variations. Refer to the final four digits of the CMP code, which is listed (in very small text) under the player stats.
- Base Cards end in #1910
- Advanced Stat Parallels end #1915
- SP variations end in #1967
- SSP variations end in #1968
