Kicking off another NHL card collecting season, 2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey maintains the affordable box price and fairly simple layout that fans have come to expect.

Largely geared to parallels and inserts, each Hobby box delivers a healthy assortment of both. Although the output is the same as 2018-19, there are several new options waiting inside. The set is also found on ePack but no earlier than one month after the Hobby release date.

2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey Base / Parallels

Collectors start the new year with a 250-card base set that has 50 High-Series cards at 1:2 packs each.

2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey Cards 3

Parallels include Puzzle Back and Silver Script editions, each averaging 1:4 packs, as well as low-numbered Super Script (#/25), Black Super Script (#/5) and Printing Plates (1/1).

2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey Rookie Redemptions

Boasting the first rookie cards of the year, the 2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey checklist offers four different Division Rookie Redemption (1:400 packs) card sets and the rare 2019 #1 Draft Pick SP Redemption (1:1,250 packs) / Gold Auto (1:12,500 packs) cards. The rookie redemptions combine to act as a case-hit, on average.

2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey Inserts

Whereas 2018-19 MVP honored the 20th anniversary for the entire brand with a look back at the first design, 2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey continues to celebrate past MVP sets, but this time for the 20th anniversary of 1999-00 MVP Stanley Cup Edition. The Stanley Cup Edition Tribute set consists of 100 cards. These have Silver Script (1:5 packs) and Super Script (#/25) parallels, plus die-cut Colors & Contours versions, including Gold and Purple (#/99) Spectrum Light FX backgrounds.

2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey Cards 6

New rainbow foil inserts can be found in Blue Liners (1:13 packs), Net Crashers (1:17 packs) and Supernovas (1:25 packs). These combine to average three per Hobby box. The Blue Liners set also has a Red parallel (1:50 packs).

I think they could do better mvp use to have 1on1 an 2on 2_jersey cards

Cards look great, but no more hits whatsoever! That’s a little too bad.

  3. Author

If they Anniversary cards follow like the 2018-19 set, they are not a parallel but an actual insert.

Will there be buybacks from the original Stanley Cup Edition? I was not lucky enough to pull a buyback from my single 2018-19 box, I was hoping to.

  4. Author

Yep. That’s why they are listed under the insert heading. No word about the buybacks but it would not be surprising if they appeared.

Looks good design wise and the set is a nice choice to pick up some early season rookie cards for a lower price point. That being said it would be nice if UD dropped the hard to find draft redemption cards and simply made a series 2 that contained the draft rookies for that said year.

Like the MVP most years. With they would just do an update in a later set than the rookie redemptions. Also wish they would get rid of the puzzle back parallels. Glad to see NHL Credentials gone though hated those.

any info regarding Autographs in the MVP ?
We averaged 2 Credentials Auto’s per case in the 18-19 issue but since they have done away with the Credentials I’m worried they have also done away with the Auto’s. Thx in advance for any info,

Other than the #1 Draft Pick redemption, autographs were not mentioned in the initial info and I have seen nothing new for MVP.
