Product Details
Just because 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball is a new product in the Topps MLB arsenal doesn't mean it will feel foreign to collectors. Each box of the acetate product includes one on-card autograph showcasing some familiar designs.
With just one card per box, 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball only contains a few main options. The Clearly Authentic Autographs set displays the '17 flagship design on a clear stock. Although the design is borrowed, new player images are featured and the product offers both veterans and rookies. In addition, every card is hard-signed and encased. There are also Green (#/99 or less), Red (#/50 or less), Blue (#/25 or less) and Gold (1/1) parallels to track down.
Less common in the 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball checklist, the Clearly Authentic Reprint Autograph inserts revisit iconic cards from Topps' history but with the addition of acetate. Signed Bo Jackson and Derek Jeter rookie cards are among the teased options in the solicitation. These cards fall roughly 1:10 boxes, or two per case, and the one-of-one Gold version is the only listed parallel.

Product Review
2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball Product Review
Reviewed by Trey Treutel
Good: Acetate cards look great; Rookie Reprints are a nice addition; decent mix of talent in the checklist.
Bad: Base versions are not numbered; massive checklist means plenty of low-value names; another set with the '17 flagship design.
The Bottom Line: Given the one-card-per-box format, 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball is a roll of the dice like one would expect. Helping its case is the appealing acetate design and potential for something big. Buying by the box, duds are to be largely expected, but the pair of reprint hits per case offer a decent option for a rare pull, and there are multiple key players in the base set.
Card Design: 4.25/5.0
Topps normally seems reluctant to get away from reusing designs and 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball is no different. However, while Clearly Authentic does repurpose the main flagship look, it does so with acetate stock, new player images and an on-card signature. This makes it feel more new than not. I also like the presentation of the clear case and clear card.
The only other option beyond the base autographs and a few parallels, case-hit reprints show less creativity but it’s hard to be too disappointed in an iconic rookie card that is remade with plastic stock and hard-signed. Another selling point is that all of these are numbered to 135 copies or less.
Checklist: 3.75/5.0
So, the main 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball checklist includes 82 cards. Although it’s on the higher side, this is a little misleading as eight rookie players have two versions, but the images are at least different. And it’s not just the low-end rookies as Judge and Benintendi are part of this group.
Most collectors would prefer it if Topps provided general rarity or complete print runs for all autographs that aren’t numbered, but it makes more sense for a set like this. It is even more confusing since they did number the Rookie Reprints. There are also a few retired players that are doubled-up, but these highlight completely different cards.
Value: 3.75/5.0
At around $50-60 per box at the time of this review, boxes are likely to take the under on value, but that is the case for most products. Helping the value is the overall strength of the design and the case hits. The other side of this is the heavy use of rookies and the unknown print runs in the base set.
The Fun Factor: 4.25/5.0
As someone who is not normally a fan of these types of sets, 2017 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball was a pleasant surprise. Sure, it is still difficult to be super excited about a box with just one card, but I found myself spending a long time examining the card from the front and back. The cards simply look fantastic. It would have been nice to pull a bigger name, but I was more than satisfied by the overall experience.

these are awesome cards however topps needs to work on their card distribution/randomizationwithin their cases. Three of the same card in one case just shouldn’t happen.
Does anyone know why security tape on some cards is centered and off center on others?
