A long holdout from the modern fad in the hobby, the 2017 Topps Archives Baseball Variations bring the short-print image swaps to yet another major set. We delve deep into the retro-inspired release with a full breakdown of the variation information.Keeping to the Topps norm, while it was revealed that the variations would be in play this year, the final 2017 Topps Archives Baseball checklist did not include them. But, have no fear! This guide will make it easy to know exactly what you are looking for in your search.
With 20 cards in the lineup, most are of the standard variety of image changes, with several opting for action shots. Hall of Fame collectors are in luck as the variation list even extends to names like Sandy Koufax and Babe Ruth. While they don't drop in each box, the SP cards are also not overly rare with listed hobby odds of 1:55 packs or roughly four per case.

2017 Topps Archives Baseball Variation Codes
While noting the images might be the preference for some, another choice collectors have is found on the back. The CMP code is a secondary option and a great way to quickly double-check if you missed something.
- Base Code - ends in #2782
- Variation Code - ends in #2799
1960 Grey Back / 1982 Blackless / 1992 Gold "Winner" Parallels
In addition, although they are parallels and not technically variations, other base enhancement this year include Grey Back parallels for the 1960 cards and gold "Winner" foil parallels for the 1992 subset.
There are also Blackless 1982 editions that noticeably remove the signature as well as any other black text from the front of the card. These have a faded look to them and can differ slightly since some cards use black for the text portions on the front.
