Returning with the retro flair familiar to NHL collectors, 2017-18 O-Pee-Chee Hockey includes a massive base set along with numerous inserts.

While there are no promised hits, each hobby box offers an abundance of cardboard options.

2017-18 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Base / Inserts

Although slightly trimmed from the 2016-17 product, collectors should find the 600-card base set more than adequate. In addition to the 500-card main set, various High-Series subsets (1:2 packs) round out the remaining list with League Leaders, Marquee Rookies, Season Highlights and Team Checklist cards. Clayton Keller, Alex Nylander and Tyson Jost are among those found in the Marquee Rookies lineup.

2017-18 O-Pee-Chee Hockey

Parallels add more variety to the base set with Rainbow Foil (1:4 packs), Black Rainbow Foil (#/100) and OPC Retro cards, which fall in every pack.

After debuting last season, OPC Playing Cards return at a rate of five per box. More specifically, cards #2 through King average 1:9 packs, while the Foil parallels are inserted 1:33 packs. More difficult, the Ace averages 1:200 packs with the Foil parallel even tougher at 1:1,568 packs.

2017-18 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Minis

Offering a new addition to the throwback set are the Mini cards that fall 1:7 packs overall. The 77-card mini base set also has various parallels and short prints at the following odds:

  • Black Foil Parallel - 1:21
  • Regular Black Variations - #/27
  • Short Prints – 1:35
  • Short Prints Black Foil Parallel – 1:103
  • Short Prints Black Variations - #/27

User Reviews

  1. This looks to be like one of the weakest rookie classes to come out since 2012-13. I wonder how Upper Deck will work around price point. I don’t even want to imagine how terrible the 5 or 6 rookies they choose as Tier 1 RPA’s for 2017-18 The Cup.

  2. doesn’t help that Nolan Patrick signed a deal with Leaf so no auto cards from upper deck of him

  3. Just curious if Legends have been omitted from this set like last year? For years I have looked forward to collecting the Rookies/Legends regular and retro variations. O-Pee-Chee in my mind is a retro heavy product with an old school feel. I’m disappointed to say the least with the omission. A glaring oversight considering the product’s theme.

  4. 1 patch per 190 packs… so 2 per case instead of 4 now!?!?!? Always giving less for same or even higher price… Keep disrespecting your customers Upper-Deck… Good job!!!

  5. Wait no autographs? I hope this isn’t the final checklist. Yet the same price point as last year? 62.95usd in dacardworld (steel city at 72.95 usd is out for the kill) this just proves what Eric said about UD giving less for the same money as last year.

  6. No autos, no legends, fewer patches? What’s UD going to cut back on next – colour photographs?

  7. 22 Legends in a 600 card set! Wow. And 12 of those are Gretzky and Lemieux! Way to celebrate 100 years of NHL hockey. UD brings shame (ok big time disappointment) to the O-Pee-Chee brand. Unless there is a slate of unannounced inserts this release officially tanks.

A friend of mine informed me of the checklist reveal and I had to take a look in hopes of a miracle…sorry I did.

  8. Last year O Pee Chee unexplainably decided to eliminate the classic three player “League Leaders” card, in place of a dull single player. How is ONE player a “League Leaders?” I thought the word “leaders” meant more than one single player.
My guess is, that the company…again… is short cutting its product, and selling us more unmotivated garbage!

  9. It is still a fun set to collect. Sucks there are no auto’s but usually you get 2-3 a case and are not worth much.
I do not understand why there would only be two patches per case. That would really suck.
Can anyone confirm with Upper Deck because this is the last set that I purchase entire cases because the price is way too expensive and you are getting less for your buck.
I am interested in the mini set.

  10. The overall Patch odds are 1:96 hobby packs. So 1:3 boxes or approximately 4 per case. The 1:190 applies to the Base Patch group only.

  11. One of the real “fun” sets to collect thanks to the cheaper price & the different subsets & parallels. Wish there were still Autos, but for me it’s all about the base set, the retro’s, black Rainbows, and I think I will like the Mini’s also….looking forward to Sept 6 !!

  12. Hi Trey,

I’m opening some cases and I found a mini with golden borders. No serial number though. Any thoughts about it? Is it an unrevealed parallel?

  13. TCB: I would imagine so. UD always has few “surprises” in OPC and I have seen several Gold Minis on eBay.

  14. I opened my case and parts of the product I like. I am not sure if the mini cards will fetch much in value but are fun to collect. I alway’s liked collecting them in the Champ’s Product and Topps C55 way back in the day. I was able to get two numbered out /27 in my case. A Brad Marchand and a rookie Brock Boeser. I love the retro versions of the base cards, especially the rookie cards. The Connor McDavid and Matthews season highlights cards are nice too. I am not sure about the patch cards as I had a 100 Year Anniversary and three player cards so I did not score the Mascot. The negative is no autographs suck for me. I collect auto’s so to not get my usual 3 sucked. I had four blank backs so I guess these were the fillers. Also, I am not a fan of the playing cards. As a set collector, nothing beats this product for the amount of players covered. I still wish Upper Deck would have a cheap set come out at in the month of March so we could have more of the roster players for the actual season. Last year we had the Parkhurst set to cover that at least. Anyone elese get any other surprise Easter eggs? If the Gold mini is it, that sucks. I loved the year that the Woodies came out.

  15. Hey Trey

What exactly are the “surprises” in this set? The mini’s with gold borders?! 100 years of hockey?! C’mon. And have the SSP’d some of the Legend Logo patches? Haven’t seen a Bossy appear yet? Beyond disappointed with this release. Who is coming up with this stuff? NOT hockey fans.

  16. What is the wrapper redeption for the red bordered cards?

  17. Ick: Details for the OPC Redemption Program have been added to the main profile page on the first tab above.

  18. If this product is not a Canadian exclusive, why is the wrapper redemption only in Canada? I have a whole case of wrappers and I cannot redeem them? How is that right?

  19. What exactly is the point of a subset that features 10 cards, 8 Gretzkys/2 Lemieux for top point getters? Just silly.

  20. I found a number of fat packs at a local Target, and the retro variation parallels definitely did not come 2 per pack as stated on the wrapper. They were more like 1:3 packs, based on my small sample size. Boo, UD lying on the wrapper odds.
