User Rating:

Pushing the hobby into unchartered territory, 2016 Topps Transcendent Baseball sits atop the collecting peak for MLB cards. Every limited box of the super-premium release, issued in a metal briefcase, no less, includes a staggering 50 framed autographs.

Honoring the 65th anniversary of Topps Baseball, 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection Baseball works heavily with this theme. Firstly, the set is limited to just 65 polished aluminum briefcases in total. Every box includes at least three one-of-one autographs as well as 49 more signed cards. In addition, each briefcase guarantees one card from every main subject in the release.

Not just limited to the high-end cards, each case also comes with an invitation to celebrate the 65th anniversary with young slugger Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs in Las Vegas.

Anything but basic, the 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection base set (#/65) utilizes a silver frame and is packed in an acrylic box. From there, the main Transcendent Collection Autographs list contains an impressive mix of past and present baseball stars as well as surprises such as Pele and Daisy Ridley. These gold frame autographs are limited to 52 copies in honor of 1952 Topps. Parallels include Blue (#/25), Purple (#/10), Red (1/1) and Black (1/1). It is important to note that boxes will have duplicate subjects but it will not be of the same card and instead a parallel.

Young phenom Kris Bryant is also a major focus of 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection Baseball. Kris Bryant Topps History Autographs is a one-of-one insert line that showcases designs from all 65 Topps sets with Bryant as the only subject. Every briefcase includes one of these rare offerings.

Paying homage to the most iconic cards in Topps' storied history, Anniversary Sketch Cards (1/1) rely on the artistic skill of Mayumi Seto to revisit the greatest Topps cards. Boxes include one of these original pieces as well as a full set of Anniversary Sketch Reproductions (#/65).

Putting a bow on 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection Baseball are the Oversized Cut Signature Box Toppers (1/1) that come in every case. These framed toppers showcase cut autographs for some of the most important figures in baseball, politics, entertainment, other sports, and history, for that matter. Babe Ruth, George Washington and Neil Armstrong are among the many notable choices.

Blowing away all other high-end sets, at least for now, 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection Baseball box prices fall in the $22,000 to 27,000 range. It has a suggested retail price of $25,000. Topps is selling it directly (on its website) for $22,000.

Anyone spending this kind of dough on modern baseball cards is a fool. I don’t care if you’ve got “disposable income”. If you buy a case of this over spending that money on vintage, classic cards: please hold a an L in the air. You lost.

Ugly cards. Looks like they just took plain topps card and just put a cheap looking crop over it. So when did design take a back seat to the card’s value. Feel like the introduction of autos has greatly made manufactures lazy in introducing new designs and photos.

These cases have possibly the 2nd worst ROI (Behind Eminence) for the cards inside of the case. Hell, the case itself will probably sell for more than half of the cards inside of it. The cards don’t look all that great. It probably took the graphics department 10 minutes or less to come up with the design. Plus, that Topps Party invitation is so hyped up it cracks me up that people value the thing at over $3k. I’d like to know what planet these people are on.
Yes only 65 people will be invited.
Yes, Kris Bryant will be there. (For all you know you could be eating dinner with him in a restaurant right now and not even know it)
Yes, it is in Vegas (No big deal there)
Yes, it includes a Hotel room in Vegas (They don’t tell you what hotel or for how many nights)
It’s on a Wednesday night. Wouldn’t you think the weekend would have been a better choice. (I guess when you plan things at the last second you get stuck with whatever you can get)
Transportation to Vegas is NOT included but if you’re going to spend this kind of money on a case Topps knows you can afford the cost of the transportation.
If you’re a case breaker you better hope you sell however many cases you have of this quick. And I mean like yesterday. If you get stuck with them you might as well file for Bankruptcy now because after that so-called Topps party in Vegas on January 18th you’ll be lucky to get $15k for the entire case. As it is now I see some case breakers adding Transcendent spots to their current breaks. That should tell you something right there. Case breakers know they cannot afford to get stuck with this stuff or they lose a lot of money.
Hell, maybe Topps released this purposely to decline the breaker population. I remember when there were only like 10 different breakers like 5 years ago, now it seems like there are 100’s of them.
I look at it this way If a case breaker got a single case they are catering to their clientele for the so-called opportunity of a lifetime. If they got more than a single case they are just greedy trying to make $$ off everyone and I hope they get stuck with the extra cases they got. Proves them right.
If you haven’t figured out the money breakers are making off this stuff it’s not hard to figure out. They’re making a killing off of it as long as they fill the break. If they sold 170 Spots at $155 a spot they’d be making anywhere from $1K to $3K profit depending on if they got it direct from Topps or a distributor. Yes that is after expenses of Shipping supplies postage and PayPal fees. Talk about top $ per hour of work there. I almost think the breakers are laughing all the way to the bank just as hard as topps is as long as the breaker is lucky enough to sell his case off.

Ive watched 2 breaks so far today and its really nice looking stuff and the presentation was kinda cool. Not sure how it is worth it for the people that split these things like 150 ways and it seems to me like something that would only be worth it to someone rich whod want it for a personal collection. Anyways the Cut 1/1 autos i saw were Woodrow Wilson and Christopher Reeve so those were cool. Gonna try to watch as many as I can just for the cut autos.

So autographs thT should be in other products are dumped into this garbage idea and we get Joe no name in affordable product. Thanks Toppanini!

Just when you thought a card company had FINALLY run out of ideas….one would have to be certified insane to buy this. No way will you ever recoup even half your investment. And so much for suspense. You don’t even have to break the seal to know what garbage is inside.

Ya $27000 You gonna get 52 redempion. S*** load of sticker. That is 500 per sticker. lol

limited to 65 issues !!! What a pretentious load of @*^#. especially if the base set and the anniversary sketch set are NOT all the same # out of 65.

Does anyone remember Sp Legendary cuts from the early 2000’s.. the checklist at 4-6 bucks a pack was far superior to this junk. Can’t wait to watch live breaks of this disaster….

More overpriced Topps nonsense.

Jerry Garcia for me! lol…seriously, are you kidding me? How can this not be rated as an incredible product? With that said, I think this product is also preposterous. I can’t even take it seriously. By the way, when is a Kris Bryant auto card going to catch up with the number of Miguel Sano autos? And, I think Sano has been signing as a rookie for about 3 years now. Oh well, to each his own.

Man I hope I get either the Bill or Hillary Clinton cut auto, those will be extremely rare after they’re in prison next year!
