Product Details
The popular digital card app is officially joining the tangible card world! 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball marks the debut of a physical card set that will be built around the Topps Bunt app. The entry-level price point and direct connection with the mobile game could make for a very popular release.
Featuring an exclusive design, the base set includes 200 cards. Several parallels add to that with Platinum (#/99), Topaz (#/50), Crimson (1/1), and hobby-only Printing Plates (1/1).
2016 Topps Bunt Baseball builds on the base set with multiple inserts that fall in every other pack. Featuring an outer-space background, Light Force singles out 25 of the top current players. Program adopts the design of game-day programs for each team. Unique Unis looks to the various gear worn for specific events around the league with ten cards.
More 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball insert options include 15 young studs in Future of the Franchise. Both featuring limited print runs, notable home run hitters can be found in Moon Shots (#/50) while Stadium Heritage (#/25) honors celebrated players at their home park.
Working both angles, Title Town Bunt player cards and autographs exist in both the digital and physical worlds. The Title Town (#/75) cards include three players from all-time teams that have a code on the back which unlocks a digital 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball card on the app. There are also Amber (#/50) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. Signature Series Autographs are live in packs and digital editions can be earned with contests on the Bunt app.
There is also a 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball digital component via Bunt Loot Cards redemptions that are inserted 1:3 packs. Each is redeemable for a ten-card pack on the Bunt app. Every digital pack includes one Topaz base parallel and one insert. Other possible digital pulls from these app packs are Platinum base parallels (1:10 packs), and inserts like Mystery Rookies (30 cards - 1:12 packs), Rampage (20 cards - 1:12 packs) and Young Stars (30 cards - 1:2 packs). Collecting the Rampage cards unlocks a 3x boost.

Product Review
2016 Topps Bunt Baseball Product Review
Reviewed by Trey Treutel
Good: Very low cost, good insert variety and designs, select inserts redeemable for digital versions.
Bad: Digital aspect had bumps, numbered inserts and autographs are very tough to hit, parallels are easy to miss.
The Bottom Line: 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball helps lay the groundwork for what could be an interesting concept in the future, if properly executed. Strictly on the physical card side, packs and boxes are cheap, the set looks great and there are some fantastic inserts to pull. However, if you are looking for hits, this is not the set to try.
Card Design: 4.25/5.0
While the 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball base design is not my favorite with the large team logo and blurred background, I like that it offers a fresh option as too many sets already feature the flagship look. Sure, the stock is very thin but the overall card quality still seems solid despite the low price point.
The only real gripe I have with the base set revolves around the parallels. They are very tough to spot and the only noticeable difference is the serial numbered print run on the lower front of the card. I rolled right past the sole parallel in my box and did not catch it until I was going back through.
I can’t say that the inserts are all home runs, but there are some nice options and impressive variety. I especially like Program, which, as the name suggests, mimics a game day program, complete with a worn look and crease marks. Light Force also caught my attention in a good way.
While I didn’t pull any of the many limited inserts, they are also quite strong, especially Moon Shots and Stadium Heritage.
Checklist: 3.75/5.0
Because this set can act as a gateway for new collectors, I like that the base checklist has both current players and retired stars. It may not be filled with hits, but, in my mind, Topps really packed a lot into this simple set.
Admittedly, it would be ideal if the better hits were a little more obtainable. I get that pulling autographs is not really what 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball is about, but 1:9,972 is shockingly tough. Even the standard numbered parallels are 1:837 or worse. It would be a bigger draw if there was a little more incentive for repeat buyers to have a real shot at something good.
Value: 3.25/5.0
If you don’t pick up on it from the price, it is important to remember that this is a very low-end set. Yep, you probably won’t get an autograph, but the hobby boxes are like $25-35. As far as actual value, Bunt does not offer much, unless you hit one of the numbered inserts, but it scores well for me in collecting value. Plus, you aren’t spending much to begin with. It really boils down to your collecting style, but for those that appreciate the basic sets, this is a solid value.
The Fun Factor: 4.5/5.0
I greatly enjoyed Bunt. It was fun and simple. Given the modern tendency to recycle designs and the push toward high-end collecting, 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball is a breath of fresh air and not just because of the low price. Of course, the product is far from perfect and they definitely need to work on the digital side next time, but I find it to be a solid first effort and look forward to future editions.
