2016 Panini Flawless Baseball Cards

It is amazing to me that collectors spend $1500 on a product that has no MLB logos and then try and get inflated prices on eBay for no name rookies. Would you really pay $1600 for a Barry Bonds auto card? I don’t care if it was dipped in gold, it would never be anywhere close to that price. Are the collectors just that desperate to recoup their money? I don’t like that I have to only buy Topps products to have a MLB logo on the product, but to me it is at least a card that I can look at and identify with my favorite teams. I would rather take my $1500 and buy a really nice MLB licensed SSP auto than to spend it on generic looking cards. That is just my opinion, but looking at what people are trying to get on eBay for these cards is amazing. The way I look at it, once all of us older collectors are gone, and are not spending the crazy money on these products, the younger kids are not going to be able to afford these products and the hobby will start to be become extinct. What a shame.

I participated in two case breaks today and from what I’ve seen these cards are a recycled version of National Treasures. As an example, the Stan Musial cut auto is EXACTLY the same as Nat Treasures booklet card. Maybe some mega hits are available but overall I am not impressed, especially at roughly $150 per card.

I can only speak for the Canseco cards in this product, but as a player collector, I’m kind of bummed they did 10 autographs of him … non with patch pieces.

I am looking forward to seeing a full checklist of 2016 Flawless. It is my understanding Flawless is being released Friday, June 24th, and I can’t find a checklist anywhere other than the skeleton checklist that is listed as of today on this site. I assume once the product has been released a full checklist will be available but it seems with every other products there is a checklist available prior to its release. My big hope is that all of the relics will be game used and not “player worn” or “event used” relics. Would rather just have an auto without a relic if its just a player worn or event used relic.

Flawless + Baseball = Exciting High-End Product!

Please let Panini know that the cards with the year, such as the Cal Ripken mockup, have the apostrophe backward. As for the cards, definitely out of my league, just for a tiny gemstone worth about 50 bucks? No, thanks.

I think the boxes are expensive, but collectors could still pick up singles of their favorite players or teams for reasonable prices. They do look similar to National Treasures, but most collectors like that set, and remember it very well. Flawless is not the same as National Treasures, it has a lot of it’s own unique features, like the diamonds and gems, encased cards, fancy briefcase, etc. If you like Flawless football, chances are Flawless baseball will not disappoint.

These look nearly the same as 2015 National Treasures. In a word, Forgettable.

I mentioned this in Box Break recently. I’m not a football collector, but I saw the product Panini produces for football and it looks so much cooler and interesting than the baseball products. It has nothing to do with logos. They could airbrush the logos off the football cards and they would still look better. The baseball products, with the exception of Prizm, are bland.

At this time there is no price point, but I would assume it will be overpriced like National Treasures.
