2015-16 Upper Deck Artifacts Hockey Cards – Final Rookie Redemption Checklist

I bought a case and every box has been consistent. The cards are really nice but I find the relic cards a bit fragile so be very careful opening it. Like everything in life things just get more expensive, that sucks since it prices a lot of regular people out of the market. One dumb thing is pulling a redemption card out of /399, redemption should be special! My kid is a big mcdavid fan and in the case not even one of his cards, that’s rough but that’s life!

I just pulled a autographed rookie relic emerald Redemption Connor McDavid. Anyone know how much that is worth?

Has anyone who redeemed rookies seen their cards yet? It’s almost May and it looks like this checklist was made final around 1st of the year.

After seeing so many set releases this season, the Artifacts product is by far my favourite.

Some brands have 1000+ autographs for each rookie! I really like that there are less than 250 autos for each rookie in this set.

The product is overpriced for just 5 cards per pack.
6 packs I opened were all base cards. Couldn’t believe it.
Won’t be buying again.

Just from fun, since I am a Panini lover, I purchased 1 box …
Got some parallels, 1 single jersey and 1 dual jersey card…

Are the odds worse of pulling a quality card if you purchase from retail like Walmart ? Picked up a few packs from a local Walmart an got a wildcard rookie redemption. Red 216. Anyone know how to redeem ? Couldn’t find on UD website.

states above that “The top five players will have an assortment of cards to go with their basic redemptions. Collectors can find Rookie Redemption Autographs, Autographed Memorabilia, Patch Tag Autographs and one-of-one Black Foil cards.”

From odds, seems black auto rookie redemptions I – V (1:11,500 packs) are /5 but could they be #1/1s?

I love these cards!
Scored a McDavid rookie redemption and his Emerald jersey patch in two boxes.
Let’s hope he lives up to the hype.

Historically, this has been my favorite brand to collect. There was a consistent and dependable mix of auto, patch, mem, redemption and parallels in every box. You always knew what you were paying for. This year, without the competition from Panini, UD has taken advantage of the consumer. They diluted the product with an absurd number of valueless parallels, dropped the number of packs in each box, cut back on the frequency of patches and make the Rookie Redemptions so confusing that the average collector cannot easily discern what they have pulled. (see above posts). These are several ways that a monopoly ruins a market. The corporation rakes in more $ and the consumer gets an inferior product.

Eichel might have to sign because the NHLPA has an agreement with Upper Deck.

Aside from that, this product is basically the same as every year: reasonable price but for most boxes you will not get any big hits. Basically you either hit huge, or you end up with a bunch of jersey cards and parallels that no one will buy or trade for. Even the low numbered patches have limited appeal to a lot of collectors. The addition of the honored members cards is nice, but unless you are cracking a ton of product you are not likely to hit one.

I took away a star because a reduction in the number of cards makes it hard for set builders/collectors to build master sets/parallel sets. But, given the number of people chasing McDavid there will likely be a lot of stuff on the secondary market anyway…

Love the quality of these cards each year. Auto rookie redemptions are always exciting to wait for. Good call by UD on sticking Larkin in as the II redemption – best news I’ve heard since iOS added the hockey emoji!

eric, technically speaking, on the box it says 3 Autographed OR Memorabilia cards, which means that they don’t necessarily have to put any auto in a box, as far as you have at least 3 memorabilia. The Products Details on Cardboard Connection is a bit misleading, since they wrote AND instead of OR, which then would mean that you would necessarily have at least one auto in every box. Now, is it normal that UD does that? No, it’s not and again, they are simply taking advantage, and will continue to do so, of a situation where there’s no competitor.

So, can UD have Eichel jersey cards? He attended one of their events and didn’t UD tweet a photo of him wearing a Sabres jersey?

saw 3 boxes opened and 2 did not have an auto? is this an error or something new? How do they get away with removing content?? I really think they are doing damage to the brand here! Who is making the decisions for these products?

I find it painfully obvious that Upper Deck is trying to remove value from hockey products to add lost revenue. What better year to take advantage of collectors then the McDavid year. Shameful.

Mickey, of course, Eichel has exclusivity with ITG, so he cannot sign with UD. The only possible rookie card he can have in this set is the Buffalo one or one of the Wild Cards. In the meanwhile, UD announced he’s the Buffalo redemption, so I guess that’s his only card in this set, which makes it, technically speaking (correct me if I’m wrong), his first UD rookie card. I mentioned the same thing in my post. At the same time, UD has many faults, but not this one. People should learn to assume responsibility for their acts and stop blaming an intangible institution. UD doesn’t force them to be gullible and buy on eBay a redemption with no name on it, just because the seller says that’s Eichel. Also, a lot of dishonest sellers there profit of this McDavid folly and this neither is the fault of UD.

The numeral ll autographed redemption can’t be eichel as upper deck has no rights to his auto. I think upper deck needs to release full planned checklist as people may waste money on something that can’t be?

Hi Trey. I have 2 questions for you:
1. Are you sure about the rookies in question? Did UD tell what redemption goes with what player, or did you simply suppose it?
2. What’s the difference between RED-205 Edmonton Oilers (Connor McDavid) (no signature, no jersey/no patch) and I Redemption Card I (Connor McDavid) (no signature, no patch)?

I give a 2.5 stars to this product. I opened 2 hobby cases.

Checklist – It’s ok, but as usual there will always be players left outside (Halak is one example). All in all, all the teams are well represented I believe. Also, important thing, the Checklist is not at all clear. As other people noticed, the Autograph Rookie Redemptions set doesn’t have signatures on all the cards, as the title may suggest. This is very unprofessional from UD.

Design – Very nice design, especially the base cards. At the same time, I find a bit redundant the jersey cards. I don’t see much of a difference between Lord Stanley’s Legacies, Frozen Artifacts, and Artifacted Swatches, especially when coming to patches/jerseys.

Quality – I always find defaults when I open UD cases, but this time there were almost none. Only some damaged or bent base cards.

Inovations – Year One Rookie Sweaters set seems ok, although to be honest with you, I don’t know why we really need a card of a rookie when he’s not a rookie anymore.

Notable Pulls – 3 Gretzky (2 signed – Base Jersey Auto /25 and Lord Stanley’s Legacy Signatures – and Base Gold Spectrum /5 with patches), 1 Oilers Rookie Redemption, 1 Buffalo Rookie Redemption, 1 Toronto Rookie Redemption (and many other rookie redemptions), 1 of 1 Tundra Tandems Tags (Wheeler and Scheifele), Stick to Stick Stick Tape (/10) (Chelios, Savard, and Larmer) and alii (numerous patches).

Problems – 1.There are too many serial numbered inserts that, in the end, have no real value comparing with the base cards. The rookies /999 will be sold almost at the same price as the ones /399 etc. 2. I though this is a coincidence, but the mix of the cards is very very bad. In 2 cases I did not even had all the rookies. I pulled 3-4 of them 3 times, while others none. Also, I noticed that in some boxes there were always the same players. 3. Come on UD, patches /12 or /10 with only a white cloth. Even the Jerseys have a different texture than these. Buyers pay already a buck load of money on your products, at least show them some respect and stop being so cheap! I don’t think it’s that hard to only select…well the actual patch when you say it’s a patch card!

Fun Facts – 1. My wife has what I call the “Gretzky finger”. I never open my own boxes and let her perform her miracle every time. This time, she pulled not one, not two, but three Gretzky cards either with auto or low numbered. 2.When she pulled the Dual 1 of 1 tag, she was upset because she though the patch was missing. Very amusing moment :) 3.Since Eichel signed an exclusivity agreement with ITG, his only rookie card may be the Buffalo one (which is the one I think) or one of the Wild cards. He cannot have a card in the Autograph Rookie Redemption. I mention this because I saw on eBay a lot of people selling one of the 5 first redemptions as his.

I try to evaluate a product objectively, not accordingly to my specific pulls and I find some aspects really upsetting: the price went up and the number of cards lowered comparing to last year, the patches that are no patches, the misleading checklist provided by UD, and the redundancy of the design.

Are the Ruby parallels for the I-V cards autographed even if the card just says Rookie Redemption and not Autographed Rookie Redemption? It’s a little confusing.

This product has taken a dive. Majority of the boxes opened have only swatches that are one color. You do get a rookie redemption but sometimes the redemption is for a swatch. The cards design is nice, but would rather save my money elsewhere

Everything goes up in price this season due to McDavid. It will not be like Nathan Mackinnon’s year where it was easy to get either. Cards look nice. My best card in two boxes was a Sam Bennett rookie auto.

I just pulled a Rookie Relic Redemption 1 silver dual jersey. Does that mean that it’ll be McDavid. I only buy one box of Artifacts a year and usually just trade off the redemptions. Meaning I don’t know how they work……..forgot to add that part. Thanks

Last year 75$ 40 cards, this year 93$ 32 cards, next year 110$ and 25 cards?

So Griffin Reinhart was traded at the draft but he is still listed as an islander. Would it kill upper deck to maybe just maybe include halak, Leddy and Boychuk in anything?

JP, with Panini gone, UD will continue these kind of things. Take for example The Cup, where they reduced the number of cards by one, from a 6 cards pack to a 5 cards pack. Roughly, the cards went from 80$ in average to 100$ in average. I was sure that they will start slowly to change things, to rise their prices and lower the number of cards. They will take a maximum advantage of this situation. People will pout and criticize them, but I’m pretty sure they will still continue to buy their products. Why? Well, it’s simple, because there’s no one else, if we keep out of the discussion ITG.

UD sucks again downsizing from 10 to 8 packs a box.
