Variations
Normally reserved for sports card sets, Star Wars collectors can get in on the variation fun with multiple options in 2015 Topps Star Wars High Tek. While the differences are hard to spot in some releases, they are much more obvious in High Tek, with a focus on character photos that showcase different costumes. Other elements come into play with the ten different base patterns.

Limited to just ten subjects, several key names, including Han Solo and Princess Leia, have two different variations. The rest only offer one variation, bringing the grand total to 15 cards. The limited variants are fairly tough to pull at 1:24 packs/boxes.

As far as distinguishing the versions, there are several ways to do that. First, the image changes are highlighted below and are generally the most obvious way to spot them. Also, variations add an "A" or "B" to the card numbering on the back and offer another option to identify the cards. Building on that, each version also has a different headline that is listed on the back. Lastly, the base card is the only one to include multiple background patterns, so that is another way to rule out the non-variations.

The base patterns are a little more tricky as the design names were provided but the original info did not appear to match up exactly. We have pieced things together on the next tab to help collectors identify the many options.

Base Patterns

Like each of the recent High Tek products, variations are not the only differences to find. Every card in the base set comes in five different background designs that are noted below. Because there are two groups of base cards, there are a total of ten patterns but each card is only found with the five that are aligned with their specific group.

Work in progress. Patterns are listed in order of suspected scarcity, with the most common first (Pattern 1) and the rarest last (Pattern 5). However, this order has not been confirmed. Actual groupings are based on the main checklist with #1-56 in Form 1 and #57-112 in Form 2.

  1. Would it be too much if I asked the fine people at your website there to come up with a visual guide to the background pattern variations (i.e carbon freezing chamber, tie fighter front etc)? This article helped with “photo variations” but there’s a lot of confusion as to which “background” pattern is which on “the bay”. Also, maybe the scarcity of the patterns if you can find out…thanks.

  2. Mike Still waiting on the official rarity order but this is what we see so far.

  3. hiya- after busting cases of this stuff, you have the form 1 pattern two and three mixed up. The star destroyer is pattern 2 and is pretty much as common as pattern 1. The hoth tactical screen is pattern 3 and is about half as common as patterns one and two. This is based on breaking 5 sealed cases plus another 6 loose boxes. Thanks, Dave

  4. Dave W Thanks! We reached out to Topps for the official rarity order and will update if we hear back.
