User Rating:

2015 Panini Prizm Baseball continues to push the number of colorful and patterned parallels. Sticking with the smaller box size introduced last year, each delivers lots of Refractor-like Prizms and other inserts. Every 12-pack box has a pair of autographs, nine total Prizms and six additional inserts.

Of the nine Prizms in each box, three are numbered. New colors and patterns include Camo (#/199), Black and White Checker (#/149), Red Power (#/125), Purple Flash (#/99), and hobby-only  Tie Dye (#/50). Two parallels take their inspiration from retired greats. Jackie Robinson Prizms have his jersey number, 42, tiled in the background. Number 2 Prizm could be a tribute to Josh Booty, but it's more likely to tip the proverbial cap in Derek Jeter's direction.

Rookie Autographs, which come with on-card signatures, cover the same colorful spectrum as the base set. Besides regular versions, parallels include Red Power, Purple Flash, Blue, Tie Dye, Gold and Black Finite. Rusney Castillo, Javier Baez and Joc Peterson are among the rookies signing for the set.

Prizm Signatures bring autographs from such retired players as Nolan Ryan, Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner, David Justice and Jose Canseco. The set, which uses stickers for signatures, has a similar parallel structure to the Rookie Autographs as far as colors and patterns go.

Signature Distinctions are hard-signed cards from current and retired players. Jose Abreu, Paul Goldschmidt, David Wright and Steve Carlton are among those signing.

In addition to a USA Baseball basic insert set, national team alumni have an autograph set that also comes with on-card signatures. Signers include Alex Gordon and David Price.

Fresh Faces looks at some of baseball's up-and-coming talent. Basic versions are inserted one per hobby box. Die-cut autographed versions feature the likes of Jacob deGrom, Mookie Betts and Clint Frazier.

Other autographs in 2015 Panini Prizm Baseball include Pink Ribbon Prizm Ink. The die-cut set includes Adam Jones, Pablo Sandoval, Justin Upton and George Springer.

I’m so sick of spending all of this money on these baseball cards when there completely worthless. I mean I have a 2015 Javier Baez Rookie Card and it’s not even worth a buck that’s just a disgrace. These card companies are coming out with these elaborate products so they can suck us in and rip us off.

Relatively inexpensive. Lots of hits per box. I notice your Rookie Autograph checklist does not have #44 Jorge Soler. Is this an oversight on your part, or do I have some super special card?

Joan V. Thanks for letting us know. After reviewing the details, it appears that this card was entirely left off the checklist we received. It has been updated.

Had a ton of fun with this product in 2015. Building a full rainbow for one of my favorite players had me busy all summer. Could not care less about the license, these cards are beautiful. My only knock that brings this down to a 4 stars product is the weak auto checklist. Excited for 2016!

Most ironic comment of the year so far:

They are cheap for a reason. No logos, you are basically buying them to collect only. Also, the checklist is weak. Save your money and invest in Bowman. You can actually sell those cards.

Well…..yeah. You buy baseball cards to collect. Imagine that…. *roll eyes.*

Also, no logos. Yes, Panini has no logos. If you don’t like the fact that Panini has no logos, then don’t buy Panini. *roll eyes.*

I love this product every year. I have purchased 3 boxes and have gotten super lucky. Degrom fresh faces gold Pulsar auto /10, Tulowitzki pink ribbon auto /25, Ozzie Guillen Tye Dye Auto /50 Starling marte blue auto /75. I did however go to buy another box and ended up getting zero autographs. Currently trying to get that figured out. Other than that, I love this product every year. I collect to collect not to make money so that makes a difference as well

Good mix of young and veteran stars. Low numbered cards, fun to collect the rainbow. Some have been damaged.

Just picked up a few blaster boxes today at my neighborhood Target store. Both were did but they finally have them in stock.

Greg I have been checking Target for rack packs/blasters and they have not got them yet here in retail. I asked an employee and she said they no longer carry them…

Really hope Walmart has them, I really enjoyed the retail specific parallels the past few years.

Prizm is my favorite release each year. It is a very fun break for only $60/box, I like this configuration much better than the 2013 where I was paying $110/box. . I have opened 5 hobby boxes so far, and my hits have already paid for at least 4 of them.

My only complaint is that the base cards look too much like “Select” from last year, and that there is no Mattingly base. Otherwise it is incredibly fun to put the set together, and if you PC a specific player it is very fun tracking down all of the refractors.

I’ve easily made more money on this than my Bowman breaks. I do not understand why people go crazy over 18 year olds who will never go pro.

I’m surprised by Jon Hi.’s comment that Prizm has no secondary market. I’ve found the opposite to be true. While Bowman lacks the star power that it had last year with Abreu and Bryant, Prizm is timeless because of the inclusion of retired favorites and Hall of Famers. In fact, I’ve sold 7 of the cards from my first 4 hobby boxes (288 cards total) and made $187 from them on eBay. That means I spent $260 on 4 hobby boxes and in 3 days since the product was released I’ve already made more than 70% of my money back with some (not all) of the top cards out of those boxes. That’s a fantastic resell value that blows Bowman out of the water, IMO.

Does anyone know when the retail version will hit the floors?

I purchased a box on 14 May, pulled a Jackie Robinson #155 Cal Ripken 28/42, new to this product, but I figured that should be pretty decent. Also pulled a Jacob DeGrom Fresh Faces Black & White auto 48/75, again hoping that its at least worth the ink used on it. Along with a couple nice color refractors, 51/60 Orange Refractor Joc Pederson, a camo refractor Julio Teheran 129/199 along with a Paul Goldschmidt Red Power 114/125 and the second auto was a Cory Spangenberg (not numbered). I think I did ok, maybe someone can verify that or not.

The key to this product is “bang for your buck.” For only $65, the hobby box comes with 2 autos and 3 serial numbered cards, with typically at least 2 of those cards numbered to less than 100. So, while there are few massive hits in this product, there are lots of opportunities for solid, decent hits. In the meantime, the base cards are attractive and the insert sets are interestingly designed, so it makes set-building fun.

I have bought two hobby boxes so far. The first box had a Tulowitzki gold ribbon auto /10, a Ken Griffey Jr. Jackie Robinson tribute /42, a Robert Stephenson Fresh Faces auto /149 and a Michael Taylor gold parallel /10. The second box had a Byron Buxton purple auto /99 and a Justin Morneau black finite parallel 1/1. The market value of those 6 cards (out of the 144 total in the two boxes) easily eclipses the $130 I spent on the two boxes. I understand that much value will not be in every box, but it is a good example of what this product can offer.

Bottom line: It’s a fun break, just like last year.

Also my listed:
Kris Bryant Chicago Cubs 2015 Panini Prizm BLUE ON-CARD AUTOGRAPH Card #/75 auto
Does not show up when you click any of the links here. Did I do something wrong? The Lee auto shows up on a few different links here even the Autographs Blue Prizms Set Checklist that the Bryant does not show up in?

Trey Treutel

Kurry F I believe the Bryant card you are referring to shows up on both the linked spreadsheet and the checklist on the product profile as card #35 on the Autographs Blue Prizms Set Checklist.

My rating might be biased since I pulled a Bryant blue auto #02/75 and a CC Lee Fresh Faces R/W/B #14/25 from my box. There is really no way I can complain although I HATE that they don’t have an agreement to use logos & team names, so that does devalue the cards somewhat on the secondary market. Also I did see a guy that came in after me open 3 boxes and he had a box with only one auto.

Horrible Auto list, prospects are in it but only a few and then some .99 cent autos. Color is what you are chasing in this product.
