2015 Panini Cooperstown Baseball sees the Hall of Fame-centric brand return after taking a year off, at least in name. But in its comeback, it takes the higher-end approach and configuration that 2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary did. Boxes come with just one pack that has a pair of Hall of Fame autographs, a handful of base cards and a variety of inserts.

As the name suggests, everything in 2015 Panini Cooperstown Baseball revolves around the Hall of Fame and its inductees. In past years, it has been one of the more affordable ways to bust current product and build a collection of Hall of Fame autographs. Even with the more premium configuration, that looks to continue. The HOF Induction Signatures checklist includes such signers as Cal Ripken Jr, Frank Thomas, Nolan Ryan and Rickey Henderson. Also among them are the members of the 2015 Hall of Fame Class: Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and Craig Biggio. In addition to basic versions, there are different levels of parallels numbered to 49 or less.

HOF Dual Induction Signatures pair players who received their plaques at the same time. Combinations include Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, Harmon Killebrew and Luis Aparicio, and Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn.

Hall of Fame Signatures take a similar approach as the HOF Induction Signatures, albeit with a different design. Like the Induction autographs, there are parallels numbered to 49 or less.

Additional autographs available in 2015 Panini Cooperstown Baseball include HOF Cut Signatures and Recollection Collection, which offer signed versions of original inserts from 2014 Panini HOF 75th Anniversary. Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner and Jackie Robinson are among the players with cut signature cards.

And while autographs play a big role in this set, they only represent two of the 12 cards that come in a box. As with past years, there are several inserts that look at Hall of Famers from different angles. HOF Crown Royale, which land two per box, bring back the name introduced to the hobby by Pacific. These cards come with a crown-topped die-cut design. Hall of Fame Golf Outing show players hitting the links at the annual event. Names of the Game showcases some of the more famous nicknames of Cooperstown inductees.

Etched in Cooperstown looks at all-time greats. Parallels come with gems embedded in them like diamonds, emeralds and sapphires.

Product Configuration: 1 pack per box, 12 cards per pack
Price Point: Mid- to High-End Baseball Card
Target Audience: Hall of Fame Collectors, Autograph Collectors

User Reviews

  1. I’m a huge Hall of Fame collector, so I was really really excited about this product. I could not be more disappointed. The base set is boring with a design that has been recycled from the Donruss releases. Players are listed with teams they are not representing in the Hall. For example Rod Carew is listed as playing for California, Jim Bunning playing for Detroit, Robert Alomar is listed with San Diego. They should be listed as Minnesota, Philadelphia and Toronto. The lack of logos due to inability to secure licensing on Panini cards is starting to get to tiresome.
Even the subsets such as the golf classic or names of the game show little imagination or design effort. The Elites are just a bunch of recycled sets from last year’s Cooperstown release.
Finally, why is every picture (except the golf classic subset) in black and white? That makes for an extremely boring list.

  2. I participated in a case break yesterday. I bought 5 teams, the least expensive they offered. I got extremely lucky. As stated above, the assignation of teams to the players was head scratching at best. In most cases it wasn’t like a Reggie Jackson was shown as a Yankee, Angel, and A. He was depicted exclusively as an A’s player. Good for me, as I had purchased A’s, bad for anyone with Yankees or Angels. By the way, the case break was a “pick your team” with the teams like Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, etc., being quite a bit higher in cost due to the greater number of HOFers. Teams like Seattle? No hit cards for them. Randy Johnson was strictly a Diamondback. All of this is said as a warning to people who participate in PYT case breaks. You better know your checklists before purchasing your team. Inasmuch as the checklists weren’t released until yesterday, that was pretty much impossible. Another thing; they have cut signatures, great. Shouldn’t a cut signature be of a guy that can’t sign anymore? Like dead? I got one of Bert Blyleven. lol…..I’ll take it but man, crazy set up for this product. Here’s another one; 4 or 5 autos of Goose Gossage. Another couple of players had 2-3 autos. Only 30 autos in a case (except the last box only had 1 auto). Way too many dupes. Be very careful with this product.

By the way, the etched in. cards are pretty nice if you get a gem. I think in the case there were about 4-5 gem cards. I was fortunate enough to get 2. Again, as mentioned above, the designs of base and other subsets are nothing to write home about. I didn’t see any parallels of the Military cards, of which there are about 10 subjects. I remember some of the pictures like Stan Musial from Heritage sets of a number of years ago. I got a Gold Emerald of Reggie Jackson #/5 and a blue sapphire of Brett and Ryan #/10. Even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then. Good Luck folks!

  3. My biggest complaint about this set is the amount of damaged cards I received in the pack. The die cut cards which are awesome, are easily dinged. The complaints about team buy in’s, how about you guys just by a box? Cheap isn’t the name of this game. Pony up the $1200 and get yourself a case and it paid off tremendously. The jewel cards are the most appealing to me but again, cards are so easily dinged with the shiny look of these but I love the amount of parallels you get with each box that are short numbered.
