Product Details

User Rating:

2015 Bowman Football jumps quickly out of the gate, delivering some of the first NFL cards of the year's rookie crop. Like the last couple of years, hobby boxes don't deliver a lot of packs but they're a big 25 cards each.

Each Hobby box comes with four on-card rookie autographs and one veteran relic card.

2015 Bowman Football Set Details

Once again, the 2015 Bowman Football base set is divided into four distinct sections. Both veterans and rookies have paper and rainbow foil versions. Base paper versions have white borders while the foil cards are black. Rookies and veterans have slightly different rainbow foil designs. 110 rookies and veterans are in the base set. And within these groups, there are plenty of parallels.

2015 Bowman Football Cards 2

The bulk of the 2015 Bowman Football autographs come in the form of Chrome Rookie Refractor Autographs. The checklist is one of the deeper ones of the season for rookies, with as many as 80 players signing. Standard for Chrome are the numbered Refractor parallels: Blue, Gold, Orange, Red Wave (#/25), X-Fractor (#/10), Prism (#/5), Printing Plates and Superfractors.

2015 Bowman Football Cards 3

In addition to the promised four signed cards per box, 2015 Bowman Football also has Under Armour All-America Autographs randomly inserted as bonus hits. These were signed at the event back in 2012 when players were still in high school.

Relic cards buck the rookie theme. Besides basic jersey versions, there are Blue, Gold, Orange, Red (1/1) and Printing Plate parallels.

2015 Bowman Football Cards 4

The product also has a couple of basic inserts. Bowman Minis return using the 1948 Bowman design. These are included one per pack. They can also be found with autographed versions, which have Red Ink parallels (#/5). Bowman Die-Cuts land three per box and have Blue and Red (1/1) parallels. Select players also have autographed versions.

2015 Bowman Football Cards 5

2015 Bowman Football Product Review

Reviewed by Trey Treutel

Good: Four autographs per box, on-card rookie autographs, deep rookie class coverage.

Bad: Airbrushed rookie jerseys, limited variety in box, parallel overload.

The Bottom Line: The first Topps set of the 2015 NFL season has finally arrived, but the generic look still does not work and feels even worse in comparison to early Panini products, which can now use college logos. Unless you are really interested in getting the first official Topps autograph for a particular rookie, the quantity-over-quality setup of 2015 Bowman Football makes it a tough sell.

Staff Rating:
0 / 5.0

Card Design: 2.0/5.0

Sometimes sooner is not better and that is the initial thought when seeing the rookie cards in 2015 Bowman Football. The rookie base set feels like a never-ending overlap of generic images. The basic design does not help, especially since only a few background colors are used. Although parallels can occasionally save a product, the fundamental issue remains and the glut of rookie parallels (50 in my box) can’t fix that.

The veteran base cards are an example of what the set could have been if Topps had waited for NFL images for the rookies. While the cards are still simple, the action images are solid and the Rainbow Foil parallels look even better.

Sticking with the normal die-cut and mini-card format that Topps has embraced across the board, the inserts add virtually nothing. As usual, the Die-Cuts are fine but hardly remarkable. On the other hand, the retro mini cards honoring 1948 Bowman are even more disappointing considering the airbrushed images are featured on a design without any text on the front.

Although the foil parallels are not Chrome, the technology makes an appearance in the Rookie Chrome Refractor Autographs. The Chrome quality is immediately apparent and the on-card autographs are a plus, but the signed cards are basically a parallel of the base design, which is not good. They also feature a plain NFL logo in place of the team logo, further increasing the generic feel of the product.

Checklist: 2.5/5.0

Given the rookie focus, the checklist is fairly deep and contains most of the big names from the 2015 class. However, one of the bigger missing players is Melvin Gordon, who was left off the autograph checklist entirely. It remains to be seen if this is the start of a trend from Topps or just an anomaly, but it is an odd omission to not include a first-round running back's autograph in a rookie-centered set.

Other than the base cards and five hits, the reality is that the rest of the box is a bunch of parallels. I ended up with several piles of largely indistinguishable rookie cards and the fact that most parallels feature a dull black border does not help things.

Value: 2.75/5.0

Four on-card autographs and limited early competition means that 2015 Bowman Football has moderate value potential in the short run. However, big names are tougher to come by and it is hard to expect strong long-term value without logos.

Despite this, the remainder of the product offers little in terms of value because even with the many parallels, most are either not numbered or feature a print run above 299. The potential is as least there, but like the autographs, the long-term prospects are dubious, at best.

The Fun Factor: 2.0/5.0

I look forward to the new NFL season each year, but it is hard to get excited about 2015 Bowman Football. What is the point of an NFL license if you are not going to use it? You could easily argue that there is no reason to have this product at all because of Bowman Chrome later in the year, which will feature NFL images on the RCs. However, ignoring that, this set would have a completely different feel with rookie images. It could still fulfill a spot on the low-end side of things, but would not become outdated in just a short time.

I like the stock the Auto cards are printed on that little thicker card I really like, what I don’t like is that they did two diff sets one of rookies n one of vets, collation isn’t that great, but I really like this stuff good for early busting, but if you don’t want to spend the money on the boxes I’d recommend just buying the singles off comc.com or eBay like I do if I don’t hit my guys I collect. how ever I wish they would put the team they were drafted by on the auto version like they do with the base or maybe even cg the jerseys on them

Errors I’ve noticed: 1.) The Touchdown and “long catch” columns are reversed on every card, which someone pointed out. 2.) On the Eddie Lacy card, on the front of the card for his position, it says “Wide Receiver”, and on the back of the card where his stats are, it lists his receiving stats and not his rushing stats. 3.) This one is probably the most annoying. Where it says “Resume” on the back of the card, for every card in the set it gives last year’s resume! In other words, it’s worded only through 2013, as if we are now entering the 2014 season.

Not a terrible product, the design is pretty good and I’ve got some nice numbered cards from it, but people are right with some errors. One of the biggest ones I’ve noticed is that Jake Locker is in the base set, yet he’s retired? I’m not sure what that is about, haven’t noticed too many more issues though.

I bought a 24 pack box for ~75. I got 4 big name rookies in the base set, 8 purple borders (2 are refractors or whatever they call them now), (1) /499, (1) /399, (1) /299 refactor, and (2) /199. The cards are pretty hideous and don’t even show the team jerseys. There is a rookie and veteran set. This would be a good set to build if that’s your thing, but there’s only going to be a few cards worth anything whatsoever from this set. Avoid if you plan to resell.

To many parralelles, and has anyone noticed that half the stats are wrong? no one can score 80 touchdowns in a single season with a long catch of 0…bought a box today..half the cards are messed up

Is it just me or do these cards have the “TD” and “LG” columns backwards? Someone needs fired…

Bowman has done this the past few years, and I never bought anything from them because of that. I hate the designs that they have. Also, you have a box for $75.00, not $80.00.

Just completed the base set yesterday. Really nice looking cards, but there’s some players that changed teams did have a airbrushing botch job on them, Foles comes to mind. The NFL side had a Fox Sports appearance to them whereas the draft side is kind of a disappointing look to them with a time travel look in the background. However, the “Chrome” and the “Cracked Ice” appearance really look good!

Love this product! A great value with at least 4 autos and 1 jersey per box. I’ve opened 6 boxes already and pulled a Jameis Winston Blue Refractor auto /99, a Buck Allen 1/1 printing plate, and a Karlos Williams mini red ink auto /5. There are die cuts with parallels as well as jerseys with parallels. I’ve completed 2 sets of both rookies and vets and am close to completing the black rookie set. A lot of fun to open and good value makes this not a gamble but a guaranteed good buy.

i LOVE Bowman. $ auto’s, parallels up the kahoonah, and the auto’s, my bad i already said that. I can’t help it , already opened 4 boxes and i’m getting 2 more tomorrow. i always put the black set together and the Bowman mini’s are way too cool.

I would love to give it 4 stars, but the choice of rookies in this product are not good. They are missing first rounders that aren’t even on a card which bums me out. On the plus side theres a lot of cards to collect , including parallels and refractors that look great. A hobby box under $100 which guarantees 4 autos and a relic is a good deal in my book. Good thing I bought two and at least pulled at mini 1948 Jameis Winston auto.

I normally avoid the early releases like this, but took a chance and pulled the signed superfractor for shane ray during a break (thanks SBB!). That jades my opinion a bit, but they really should have waited and put a better look on the airbrushed uniforms. Some variety to the relics would have helped as well, but all in all not a terrible early season release.

really ugly cards and if they dont have the college logo uniforms — why even bother — wont buy this garbage for any price

On the Mariota card I have the same, Buckeyes on the stats but Oregon on the top where the college is. Looks like an error card. Otherwise a average product with a lot of variations.

Pretty good product. I have gone through 1 Hobby Box and I am satisfied with the variety of “Hits” and parallels. I did notice that the Marcus Mariota card did list his team as Buckeyes in the stats! That had to be a deliberate error……..anyone else noticed that or is my card “Ultra Rare”?

This product is pretty good for what it is, a summertime reminder that football still exists and is right around the corner, but has a lot of weak points. It’s good that you get 4 autos per hobby box but with that many autos in the set print runs are bound to be high so your return will probably be poor unless you hit one of the really rare cards. The rookie base set looks beyond terrible. Topps needs to lure away the person responsible for airbrushing the unis on the baseball products for Panini because these are some of the worst airbrushed cards ever. This has a slightly more premium feel than Score because of the chrome cards but the design is worse and that makes me desire Score a bit more. If Topps did a better better job with airbrushing this product wouldn’t be too bad.

I hate the rookie cards in this release, they look lame and rushed without their new NFL uniforms, this was released way to early. Just another money maker! Cards won’t hold value long term when nicer cards come along. On card autos are the only nice thing about them

One of my favorite products of the year. Glad to of helped with the price point…I was about to jump on the 49.99 price point :P I pulled the Manziel Superfractor last year so let’s hope for some more magic :D

I hope more stuff is numbered this year. They have gotten pretty lazy on it these past years.

You guys have a baseball box linked to an ebay auction for the 49.99 price point of this product

TheCardboardDude Thanks for the heads up. We try to filter things out. Turns out someone listed a baseball box in the football category. Added more filters to weed it out.

Bowman is my favorite product of the whole year. I am not a re-seller, just a collector of ‘Hits’, and Bowman has it in spades. I really like the sample pictures of this year’s design, and thanks to Cardboard Connection, I found the cheapest preorder option on eBay. (I KNEW I should have bought it when I found it at $70!) This product seems, at least to me, to be the best way to start a P.C. for a rookie, and I am very excited to get my box.

You have got to be kidding me, this set looks to be worse than last year with all of the parallels. Bowman is also separating the rookies & veterans into separate sets within the same product. This makes collecting this set very confusing and impossible to collect the entire set with all of the parallels. Last years selection of rookies was horrible. There were first round draft picks that were left out of the set, but undrafted free agents that where such a long shot to make an NFL team it was ridiculous.

Bowman needs to take a step back and reevaluate its product. This company used to be know for it’s quality and the large amount of rookies in it’s sets. Where has that mind set gone?
