2015 Bowman Draft Baseball hones in on the game's latest picks. It continues with the tighter focus that started in 2014 on the draft itself rather than prospects that have MLB cards already. As with past years, hobby boxes promise one autograph.

The base cards are done with both regular Bowman and Bowman Chrome. While 2015 draft picks make up the majority of the content, there are other prospects as well. Serial-numbered paper parallels include Blue, Green, Gold, Orange (#/25), Red (#/5), Printing Plates and Metallic (1/1). On the Chrome side there are Refractors a plenty. Besides basic Refractors, there are new Blue Sky, Blue, Green, Gold, Orange (#/25), Red (#/5), Printing Plates and Superfractors (1/1).

Chrome Draft Pick Autographs are likely to be the central chase element for most collectors. Featuring players from the 2015 MLB Draft, these are their first MLB autograph cards. For most, these will be their most popular cards in their careers. Signatures are all on-card. They have a similar slate of Refractors as the base Chrome cards.

Prime Pairings Autographs are dual-signed cards where a 2015 pick is paired with another prospect. Base versions are done on chromium stock. They also have Red Refractor (#/5) parallels.

Similar to the AFLAC Autographs in past years are All-America Game Autographs that have been collected in the past at various high school showcase events. One-of-one Gold Frame parallels are new this year.

2015 Bowman Draft Baseball has several basic inserts that dig deeper into the 2015 draft class. Draft Night shows pictures from the event. In addition to the regular versions are Orange (#/25) and Red (#/5) parallels. Teams of Tomorrow is a die-cut set that pairs a draftee with another prospect from the same organization. These have four parallels including Superfractors.

Draft Dividends is new to the set. These look at players who were drafted once out of high school, passed up that chance to go to college and ended out coming ahead once their schooling was done. The set has autographed versions as well.

All-Star Futures Game Relics are the only memorabilia cards in the product. They come with jersey swatches worn in the game. Base versions are numbered. As are the Orange parallels that are limited to 25 copies each.

New to 2015 Bowman Draft Baseball are Top of the Class box toppers, which are jumbo chrome cards of top picks from the draft. Orange Autograph and Orange Wave parallels are both numbered to 25. Red Wave (#/5) and Superfractor (1/1) parallels are also randomly inserted.

Per information from Topps close to release date, 2015 Bowman Draft Baseball has no redemptions and all signed content is live in packs.

Product Review

2015 Bowman Draft Product Review

Reviewed by Trey Treutel

Good: Lots of 2015 draftees, on-card autographs, Chrome parallels, traditional base set returns.

Bad: Limited color per box, only one autograph per Hobby box, little changes from 2014.

The Bottom Line: 2015 Bowman Draft is about one thing and one thing only: prospects. If the thrill of finding and holding the potential next big thing is up your alley, this is your flagship release. However, with limited updates and a recycled design, it does not really do enough to make the jump beyond niche product.

Staff Rating:
3.7 / 5.0

Card Design: 3.75/5.0

Matching 2015 Bowman and 2015 Bowman Chrome in the design department, 2015 Bowman Draft is not likely to change anyone’s opinion. You either like it or dislike it the same as the other two releases.

Also continuing the Bowman tradition, Chrome is plentiful and autographs are on-card, which is great.

One thing that continues to cause confusion is the lack of notation for Refractors. I personally have no real issue spotting them, but it does seem to be a regular complaint from collectors and it would be great if Topps would address it.

The base design, Chrome parallels and prospect autographs are a given and the only real variable is the inserts. This is the main way Bowman Draft can stand out from a design persecutive and the area that shows little innovation in 2015.

Bowman Scouts’ Fantasy Impact is the now-common fantasy-themed insert that does not make much of an impact at all. Also fulfilling a notch in the standard insert category, Teams of Tomorrow is the die-cut card which highlights two notable players for each team.

On the more positive side, Draft Dividends offers an intriguing look at the overall draft pick increase for players to be selected in multiple years. While it might be a little weak to base an entire insert around, I appreciated the effort, but found it more interesting in theory versus the actual execution. Lastly, Draft Night continues from 2014 but is again the strongest thanks to a concise focus and key in-the-moment images.

Checklist: 4.0/5.0

2015 Bowman Draft is loaded with young talent and on-card autographs from the recent MLB Draft. This is a double-edged sword like all prospect sets and only time will tell the select few that will emerge as stars.

While the no-rookies shock is a year further removed, it can still be harder to get as excited to hurry up and wait, especially given the strength of the 2015 rookies. Having said that, I realize that loading every product with top rookies is not the way to go and like that Bowman Draft has continued their tightened focus on the newest draftees. It does hurt immediate value, but it helps the brand, in my opinon.

The flip side is that there are still a lot of repeat prospects that are not from the 2015 draft and fill out the release. This is where things can get a little frustrating for collectors.

Value: 3.5/5.0

Value is pretty simple in a product like this because it is limited mostly to the on-card autographs and low-numbered Refractors. With only one autograph and just a few numbered parallels per box, value suffers unless you pull one of the trendier prospects.

Value is also a little different given the timeframe required to properly assess it. If the 2015 MLB Draft ends up being huge, this will be remembered more fondly. Helping value is the fact that all autographs are live in the product.

The Fun Factor: 3.5/5.0

As the third product to feature the same basic design, Bowman Draft can get stale rather quickly. I get that the checklist makes it different for collectors, but I don’t find that a valid enough reason to not give the set something else to set it apart. For me, the inserts offer that opportunity and came up short. With only one autograph and a lot of base Chrome cards, many things blended together for me.

User Reviews

  1. Hey Topps the product drops in about 10 days where is the checklist?

  2. The release has been pushed back to 12-9.

  3. Super Jumbo twice the cost of Jumbo but not twice as many autographs? All this for 99 percent of nobodys and a cabinet full of commons? I’ll pass.

  4. Is this product coming out in retail? Or are is it still going to be a hobby only release?

  5. No Bregman or Cameron base, but Conor Biggio base and auto. Thanks Topps for representing the Astros 2015 draft in the only craptastic way you know how.

  6. There are 44 players on this checklist who already have some form of Bowman card; be it autograph or insert from the past 2 years. I love Bowman Draft but there is an HUGE group of player who do not have card in various organizations and I would really like to see a full set of all new players rather then guys like Nick Gordon and Alex Jackson on another Bowman card.

  7. why won’t they put rookie cards back in this product instead of so many players that we have tons of cards of already. autographs have been diluted so bad in the last few years. polayers from the sixth or seventh round without any rookie cards will kill a regular box with only one graph.

  8. Just watched someone open two jumbos. Total junk. $30 worth of autos MAYBE. Stay away unless you are a masochist who loves to lose big money.

  9. Alright topps enough with the last name autos. Conor biggio and Mariano Rivera junk autos. It’s cool that hall of fame players have sons that play but they are not that good. I would rather have a fifth round draft pick instead of a guy who is good at bunting.

  10. I broke a jumbo box and had 2 paper cards that were numbered to 499. They are a grey/black color and you don’t have them listed as a parallel. Make sure you always look on the back of the card for serial numbers because it caught me off guard.

  11. FYI, I just asked Bowman directly about the paper parallel #/499 and the official color is silver.

  12. Jake Thanks!

  13. Always love Draft but maybe I’m getting old… Is there a difference between base and refractors? The refractors I purchased look no different than any other autos I got in my two jumbo boxes.

  14. There are GOLD versions to the Bowman Initiation cards and they are numbered to 25. I love this product because I follow the draft and the young up and coming players. The only thing keeping this product from 5 stars is the regurgitated prospect cards as previously mentioned. I liked the RC’s from this products past…just think this year’s would’ve had RC’s of Bryant, Schwarber, Lindor, Correa, Sano, Pederson, Seager just to name a few and EVERY card is a rookie card, even if it was just a 50 card set in the past. The low-numbered color of the Rookies added value when your auto sucked.

  15. overall I would rate this product a 7.5 % I purchased a case of jumbo’s received only 1 purple auto,1 gold,1 refractor auto 21 regular auto’s tons of base rookies, a bunch of prospects, who will sit and collect dust over time.

  16. 600 cards. 3 colored cards. 5 autos, no refractors at all. Not good

  17. My prediction:

I have top dollar on someone coming on here to b**tch about one of these prospects in the future, a few years from now, say…Dillon Tate…who is breaking out, will not be in the checklist of the year he gets his first September call-up…say in Sept. 2017…but he gets in on this checklist of DRAFT PICKS in 2015. AND even though he would NOT be eligible for a RC per Topp’s contract with MLB if he is a Sept. call-up in 2017 for a Topps Update set of that year. Nor will he likely have a rookie card in 2018 under the terms of the Topps-MLB contract either. His RC would have to wait until 2019, as cards ALWAYS cover the PREVIOUS year. Not the CURRENT year.

    “2015 BOWMAN DRAFT Baseball Cards”

I have no clue as to what in the heck you even expected. I mean, “regular autos of tons of base rookies, a bunch of prospects, who will sit and collect dust over time.”

I mean, SERIOUSLY, now!? Take a look at the name of the title before you EVER purchase another baseball card product. If you are not a prospector, and you expect more than 2 or 3 players to have any sort of lasting career at the ML level from a particular year, then I dunno what to tell you. I mean, YES! Absolutely there will be “a bunch of base rookies and prospects who will sit and collect dust over time!!!” I mean, holy crapola! It’s BOWMAN. And it’s a DRAFT version of BOWMAN! That is the ENTIRE point! It’s meant specifically for prospectors who want to take a risk and hold onto a set of cards for a few years, hoping AT LEAST ONE will break out!

    Uuuugghhh….some people…..

  19. These rookie cards retain value the best of any other product. Never fails to disappoint

  20. No immediate value and down side is that you have more commons of players who were never called up than the “law allows”.

  21. Great product, only beef I have is when you get an auto like Connor Biggio. Let’s be honest the kid was a pinch runner/hitter in college, was the one thousandth something pick and the only reason he was even drafted by the Astros was as a courtesy to his father who had a hall of fame career for them. I don’t care what his last name is he has no business even being on a minor league roster much less 1 of my 5 autos from a product I just purchased for $170. Especially since HE probably paid topps just to let him sign a couple thousand autos that Topps gets to water this great product down with instead of some stud that THEY would have had to pay, there by maximizing profits from us collectors who don’t necessarily collect to make money but value and popularity/ collectibility run hand in hand.

  22. i love this product cant stop buying it.. finaly a prospect i pc is in a product i like

  23. Great checklist, just not a very big fan of the design.
