2014 Topps Wacky Packages Series 1 finds a bunch of new products, shows and pieces of pop culture to pick on. As with several recent releases, it includes a couple of different hobby configurations. One is on the traditional side of things while the other focuses more on exclusive inserts and premium inserts.
Regular hobby boxes come with 24 packs of ten cards per box. While some sketch cards can be found, none are guaranteed on a per-box bases. Collector hobby boxes come with 14 packs per box. Each is slightly bigger at 12 cards. Unlike regular hobby boxes, these also promise one premium insert.
The 2014 Topps Wacky Packages Series 1 base set has 110 cards. That said, there are only 55 different card fronts. Each has two back styles, which include a mix of puzzle backs, coupons, checklists and billboards. Pattern parallels land one per hobby pack while Silver parallels are 1:3 hobby packs. Hobby collector-exclusive parallels include Red Metallic (one per pack), Ludlow Black (one per box), Ludlow Red (one per case) and new Wacky Backs. These new parallels have no text on the back. Instead there are images of several iconic Wacky Packages characters. Both hobby and hobby collector packs also have Gold parallels.
Complimenting the base set are two ten-card inserts. Ridiculous Reads pokes fun at popular books and comics. Terrible TV does the same with television shows.
Hobby Collector Exclusives
Hobby collector boxes are aimed at those who chase inserts and more high-end exclusives. In addition to the parallels not found anywhere else, these boxes promise an autograph, sketch card, Printing Plate, Patch card or Medallion card.
Artist Autographs ditch the stickers used in previous sets and are signed on-card. Sketch Cards can be found in two styles: regular and shaped. Patch cards don't have small embroidered patches embedded into a larger card. Rather they're full-sized patches. Medallion cards take a classic Wacky product and have a metal piece placed in a card.
Other collector box exclusives include Pencil Drawings (one per box), Hobby Bonus Stickers (one per box) and Lost Wackys (one per case). Each hobby collector box also comes with an over-sized Billboard box topper.

So what’s the deal with Wacky Packages 2014 Series 1 I see on the shelves now? Shouldn’t we have been up to an ANS 12? They appear to be all new, not re-prints (i.e. Chrome, Flashback, etc.).

Chris Power Like GPK, Topps has gone to a yearly model by the looks of it, dropping the ANS and going with the year instead.
