Complete Breakdown of the 2014-15 Panini Threads Basketball Rookie Cards

Threads Basketball is not a new brand, but collectors will notice a few twists in the familiar Panini product. First, the entire release is exclusive to Target. Also, there are four rookie options available for most of the first-year players, and the different rookie cards are exclusive to specific box and pack formats. To help make sense of it all, we have compiled a breakdown of the all the rookie cards found in 14-15 Threads.

The following guide includes the various rookie card options in 2014-15 Threads Basketball and the specific packs and boxes to find each version. Although they will likely appeal to player collectors given the rookie variety, the 175 rookie cards offer a challenging task for set collectors.

While Panini revealed that all versions except for the Team Threads rookies cards were exclusive to one specific configuration, we have gotten reports that it may be possible to pull some versions from different packs than indicated.

2014-15 Panini Threads Basketball Rookie Card Guide

Team Threads Die-Cut Jersey Rookie Cards

Where to find them? All packs and boxes.

A common card design for Threads, the Team Threads rookie cards feature a die-cut jersey for 40 of the 2014-15 rookies and can be found in all pack and box configurations. The card front and back is shown for the Andrew Wiggins card because the front is very plain and only displays the player's number and team.

Leather Rookie Cards

Where to find them? Premium boxes.

Leather normally presets a more high-end feel so it is only fitting that these rookie cards are found exclusively in the Premium boxes of 2014-15 Threads. The cards are very similar to the faux-leather rookie cards in 2012-13 Marquee Basketball. From this point on, the rookie checklist slightly increases to 45 cards and includes the same players.

Micro-Etch Rookie Cards

Where to find them? Gravity Feed packs.

Only found in Gravity Feed packs, the foil coil background immediately gives the Micro-Etched rookie cards a distinct look.

While no specific prints runs were revealed, Panini hinted that these may be some of the rarest rookie cards of the entire collecting year. That means that some collectors might end up with a steal if/when Panini reveals how limited the Micro-Etched rookie cards actually are. However, based on early listings, they don't appear much more rare than any of the other rookie cards.

Wood Rookie Cards

Where to find them? Blaster boxes. 

Another familiar concept from Threads, the Wood rookie card work much better unsigned given the tendency for the signature to bleed on the faux-wood surface. Exclusive to Blaster boxes, the dual-image design and foil text combine with the hardwood look to produce a captivating rookie card.
