2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Surprises Include 3-D and Blank Back Cards

2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Surprises Include 3-D and Blank Back Cards

In recent years, Upper Deck has gotten into the habit of adding some surprises to many of its hockey releases. 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Hockey is no exception. A line of 3-D inserts and Blank Back cards are among the unannounced additions collectors can be on the lookout for. Upper Deck has also announced a special Josh Harding autograph.

OPC 3-D is a 42-card insert that includes both past and present players. Other than the obvious 3-D effect, the design is fairly minimal. The image is joined by a small white border, the classic O-Pee-Chee logo and a basic nameplate. Backs have very little information other than the player's name, card number and a massive team logo.

Some Retro parallels are popping up with nothing on the reverse other than some old-school brown card stock. Blank backs have been done in the past but they still weren't announced in advance.

A third addition is the latest in Upper Deck's line of Heroic Inspirations cards, this time honoring Wild goalie Josh Harding. He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in November, 2012 but has since returned to the NHL. The 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Heroic Inspirations Josh Harding autograph is limited to 25 copies and comes with the inscription, "My inspiration is my father."

Ryan is a former member of The Cardboard Connection Writing Staff.   His collecting origins began with winter bike rides to the corner store, tossing a couple of quarters onto the counter and peddling home with a couple packs of O-Pee-Chee hockey in his pocket. Today, he continues to build sets, go after inserts with cool technologies, chase Montreal Expos and finish off his John Jaha master collection.
