2013 Topps Inception Football, the brand's third gridiron outing, continues to focus on rookies, autographs and bold designs. Every single-pack box comes with a pair of autographs or autographed relic cards as well as a jumbo memorabilia card.
The base checklist includes 100 veterans and are printed on thick 72 pt. card stock. Every box has two of the following parallels: Green (one per box), Purple (#/99), Yellow (#/75), Red (#/50), Framed Printing Plates and blue Inception (1/1) cards.
2013 Topps Inception Football Rookie Autographs feature on-card signatures from key members of the 2013 NFL Draft class. Numbered as part of the main set, they have the same parallel levels and quantities as the base cards. Confirmed signers include Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon, Eddie Lacy and Montee Ball.
Elemental Autographs are also hard-signed. The cards incorporate a weather theme. Silver Signings (#/50) cards feature a horizontal design with, you guessed it, a silver autograph. Parallels include Gold (#/25), Gold Nickname (#/10) and Gold Inscriptions (1/1). Other signature-focused inserts include Dual Rookie Autographs (#/25) and Quad Rookie Autograph book cards (1/1).
Rookie Autographed Jumbo Patches have a signature and over-sized swatch. Basic parallels include Green (#/75), Purple (#/50) and Yellow (#/25). More unique memorabilia pieces are also incorporated into the set: Glove (#/10), Swoosh (1/1) and Inception Team Logo cards (1/1).
As one might expect, 2013 Topps Inception Football autographed relic book cards are rare. Autographed Patch Book Cards (#/5) have an on-card signature on one side and a massive swatch on the other. Autographed Laundry Tag (#/5) and Autographed Letter Book Cards (1/1) deliver distinct pieces of memorabilia.
Falling a combined one per box are Rookie Patches and Rookie Jumbo Relics. Both come with the following parallels: Green (#/75), Purple (#/50), Yellow (#/25), Red (#/10) and Team Logo Patch (1/1). Rookie Jumbo Relics also have one-of-one Swoosh parallels. Rookie NFL Shield Logo Patch cards are limited to one copy each as well.
It is worth noting that all of the autographs and relics in 2013 Topps Inception Football are rookies. Veterans are limited to only the base set.

2013 Topps Inception Football Product Review

Good: Three hits per box. Rookie autographed jumbo patches. On-card rookie autographs. Thick, 72-point card stock. Nice array of parallels. Sharp patches and base design includes good colors and appealing photos.
Bad: Base set checklist is somewhat questionable, including some debatable names and overlooking others. Corners are prone to dings.
The Bottom Line: With only seven cards per box and a higher price tag, this product isn't for everyone. Many people will try their luck on the secondary market instead of breaking a box on their own, but the hits will keep collectors interested. The patches are really nice and on-card autos are always a hit with collectors.
Card Design: 4.0/5.0
The design is strong and features quality card stock. The multi-colored patches are a main draw to this product. Although the base design is similar to past Inception products, it still works. The card backs could use some work. An additional photo or a subtle change would help immensely.
The player images immediately catch the eye and seem to jump off the card. Silver and gold ink autographs were a nice addition for the on-card signatures. The differences between the parallels and base are rather subtle.
I wish Topps would have increased the font size for the players' names, positions, and team logos. Some of the coloring makes it difficult to read this information. It would also be nice if all of the players were shown with their actual jersey numbers. Some rookie players have the overused "00" on their uniforms.
Checklist: 3.0/5.0
The rookie autograph checklist includes 40 players and leaves a lot to be desired, as well. Some of the rookie linemen would have been better choices than several players that are included.
Value: 3.5/5.0
The value is determined by the multi-colored patches and on-card autographs. One-pack boxes have the potential to leave you minimal value and Inception is no different. The various parallels do help the overall value.
Due to the 2013 rookie class, the top hits in this box aren't currently the greatest names, but does include some good prospects. With the quality of the autographs and parallels, there is a lot of potential for this product and the market should be solid for Inception this year. Overall, the design is aesthetically pleasing. It is likely that people will enjoy hunting down colored variants of their favorite players and teams. The colors are the best part of this product.
The Fun Factor: 4.0/5.0
It is always fun to open products like Inception. The quality of the photos and design is solid. The patches are multi-colored and many of the autographs are the on-card variety. Though the boxes only contain seven cards, I found myself flipping through the cards slowly to take a long look at each card.
