2013 Topps Best of WWE Autographs Guide
When you put the tag "Best of" on a set, it makes expectations high. Anything but the best should be a disappointment. Autographs have been a cornerstone of nearly every WWE trading card set Topps has put out since regaining the license in 2005. Although the entire run has some very impressive signers, few Topps WWE sets have encompassed a deep lineup of top-caliber autographs. Like a lot of sports sets, top names are sprinkled in with secondary superstars. However, 2013 Topps Best of WWE Autographs go a little further than most. The checklist delivers some big names, legitimate blue chippers and several Hall of Famers.
There are 19 different cards in the 2013 Topps Best of WWE Autographs lineup. That might be a little bit deceiving as Mick Foley has four different variations. Besides signing as himself, he also has cards featuring his in-ring alter egos Cactus Jack, Dude Love and Mankind.
Elected to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, he's joined in the set by fellow inductees Trish Stratus, Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund. These are the first WWE-licensed autograph cards of Sammartino and Backlund. Stratus last signed for a WWE set back in 2006.
2013 Topps Best of WWE marks the first time ECW founder Paul Heyman has signed for a set. He's been on preliminary checklists before, but the cards never materialized. Other first-time signers in the set include Vickie Guerrero, Damien Sandow, Big E. Langston, and all three members of the Shield -- Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
2013 Topps Best of WWE Autographs use stickers for autographs. It has been this way for all Topps WWE sets released after 2005 Topps WWE Heritage.
Autographs are inserted 1:48 2013 Topps Best of WWE hobby packs, which works out to one every other box. Besides basic autographs, there are also dual autographs in the product. These are extremely rare to the tune of, according to the original sales info, 100 total cards across the entire print run.
