Axl Rose and the 2013 Topps Archives Baseball Heavy Metal Autographs Lineup

2013 Topps Archives Baseball Heavy Metal Autographs is one of those quirky insert sets that some collectors love and others loathe. It's pretty much exactly like the musicians included in the set. Just as 2013 Topps Archives Baseball focuses largely on the 1980s, the checklist is composed of big-haired rockers from the Golden Age of Heavy Metal. Included is the first certified autograph card from Axl Rose (or at least a promise for one).

All 2013 Topps Archives Baseball Heavy Metal Autographs come with on-card signatures from the featured signers. They're also nearly all pictured as they looked in their glory days.

A parallel version, call Real Heavy Metal Autographs, are printed on actual metal as opposed to card stock. Limited to 25 copies each, they're inserted in packs as redemption.

The set's only other redemption is the centerpiece of the set, Guns 'N Roses frontman Axl Rose. Early sales have Rose selling for $250-300. However, these prices could be a little soft as some collectors are hesitant as to whether the singer will come through and sign his cards.

HMA-AR Axl Rose, Guns N' Roses - Redemption

Axl Rose is a true legend, albeit one that comes with quite the reputation. Part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his hits include "Paradise City," "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Welcome to the Jungle." When the signed copies start showing up, it's very possible these cards could go through the roof. Hopefully it won't be a wait like G N' R's last album, Chinese Democracy.

2013 Archives are still one of my all-time favorite releases from Topps. I can’t get enough hobby boxes to break. 4+ years after their initial release and I’m still pulling great cards. Just snatched a Kip Winger auto today to go with the Tommy Lee and Bobbie Brown Heavy Metal autos I already have.

I pulled a Real Heavy Metal Auto of Sebastian Bach, the redemption is still pending though. Anyone have any ideas as to how long the status usually takes to change?

Do you think anyone will ever receive their Axl autograph?

Drewzer » There shouldn’t be redemptions if a deal isn’t in place. At this point it’s up to Axl to sign his cards. Personally, I think they’ll eventually get done. When? Not really sure.

Does anyone know if these things count as a “hit” in a hobby box, or are they a bonus auto?
