Imagine card lines had walk-up music like athletes do. With its mix of bright colors and etched foil designs, "Wild Thing" would be the serenade of the Totally Certified line. 2013 Panini Totally Certified returns with the same distinct flair as well as the promise of one hit per pack.
The base set has 50 cards. There is also a 50-card Thanksgiving Day subset that offers a historical look at the annual game, dating all the way back to 1925. Besides basic versions, Thanksgiving cards include autographs and parallels from such players as Emmitt Smith, Bart Starr and Barry Sanders.
Freshman Fabric rookie cards come with both an autograph and an over-sized swatch from a player-worn jersey. The checklist includes the 40 players from the 2013 NFLPA Rookie Premiere. Numbered parallels include Totally Gold, Totally Green and one-of-one Totally Black. Certified Future Signature Materials take a similar approach to rookie autographed memorabilia but with a different design.
Team Panini Signature Materials includes autograph and memorabilia from top players. Like much of the rest of the release, numbered parallels appear here as well. Cards are numbered to 99 or less.
Stitches in Time memorabilia cards highlight top veterans and retired players. Dual-, triple- and quad-swatch combinations are possible. These cards are numbered to 299 or less.
2013 Panini Totally Certified Football hobby boxes have six packs, each with a hit. Sealed boxes promise a mix that includes two signed cards and three memorabilia cards. The sixth hit can fall under either category.

2013 Panini Totally Certified Football Product Review

Good: Distinct look, Thanksgiving subset looks especially good.
Bad: Too reliant on parallels, fun of Thanksgiving cards limited a little because of slightly delayed release.
The Bottom Line: Totally Certified has one of the most distinct looks in the hobby. But after several years of similar content, is it time for a break? For 2013 Panini Totally Certified Football, on a whole, the cards look good. But even though the look is the good, the seemingly endless amounts of parallels and foil falls in line with so many other recent products.
Card Design: 3.7/5.0
If you’ve bought Totally Certified before, you’re familiar with the etched foil. It’s distinct, it’s wild and it’s bright. It’s the kind of design that can be polarizing with collectors. Personally, I don’t mind it. The etching makes it a little more distinct than similar base sets. The arching that runs up the sides of the base cards is a little much given how busy they already are.
Of all the base cards, my favorites are from the Thanksgiving subset. Traditionally, Totally Certified has been about isolating the player and removing the background. The Thanksgiving cards take an opposite approach. They combine the background shot with a speckled etched foil. The result, save for the Thanksgiving logo in the top corner, is striking.
Another staple of the brand is the many coloued parallels. These are fine, but they don’t seem to have as much pop as some previous years. The coloured foil acts more like an accent as the basic silver foil in the massive nameplates remain. Also, the tiled repetition of the color behind the player on the memorabilia cards is a big turn off for me.
Besides the Thanksgiving cards, my favorite in the release are the veteran autographs. They don’t stray far from the base design but the blocking for the autographs offers a nice balance. Even with stickers on foil, they look solid.

The 2013 Panini Totally Certified Football checklist is good for covering key players. However, it’s far too reliant on parallels. So while there’s a good chance of pulling a low-numbered card, it doesn’t look that much different than the regular card.
When it was originally announced, the set was supposed to arrived before Thanksgiving. This made the themed subset perfect. However, delays caused it to come out just after. Given how many cards in the set are dedicated to the annual game, this hurt a little.
This is another product that is dominated by rookie autographs, although there are a few veterans including some of the first signed Richard Sherman cards.

While every pack promises a hit, it’s tough for collectors to get a great return given the lack of distinctness. Parallels can bring solid value to a point, but between the base, autograph and relic versions of each card, it’s too daunting for a lot of collectors to even tackle. As a result, even landing a low-numbered card of a solid player might not mean much. Of course, there are lots of exceptions but this is a product more for fans of the brand rather than those looking to flip or see a decent return to help recoup some of the cost.

There are elements of Totally Certified that I like. That said, all the parallels make it overwhelming. It’s also a very similar approach to a lot of other sets that have all come out close to one another. Simply put, there are too many foil sets where one of the big draws is parallels. Something has to give at some point. Other than the etching, Totally Certified is very close to Absolute. In the future, it would be nice to see some of these spread out more. Even better, this could be an opportunity to consolidate a few of the brands, maybe even give some a break.

Nice product like the design and all the serial numbered low end hits. Be wary at least one of the redemptions was never signed and returned by the player in this case Kenjon Barner Freshman Phenoms. After 2 years waiting eventually got some points as replacement. Other than redemption problem as a low end auto collector i loved the set!
