2013-14 SP Authentic Hockey Cards

I have 2 cards from the Sign of the Times autos #SOT-RM Ryan Murphy and #SOT-SL Scott Laughton not listed in your above info. just wondering what level A-D each card is and why they are not here after 3 years?

It is an interesting dilemma if it is nice or not to have previous’ years update.

We can say some collector might be attracted to it to make their set complete, especially if those cards were planned but not included for whatever reason (difficulty to get players auto, print problem, etc.) in the original release and no redemption was available (so they are not left-overs), etc.

Collectors will of course be “more excited” to get those the same years as the product. I guess panini with their Rookie Anthology somewhat got it right (unless you consider that if you do one set, you do not want stuff from other set, but they had the luck to have a bunch of interesting RC in this like Mackinnon, Andersen, Barkov, Hurberdeau, Trouba, Tarasenko, Jones, Galchenyuk, Hertl, etc.).

The one not numbered, like only letter, unless they were in original checklist, they are discussable, but if you miss a numbered one for a set, you might be happy to get it and it can get a good value because it would be rare and couple of completist would/should be willing to pay a premium for those to complete their set (it can be a sickness). Like that one is interesting for rarity, player, numbered, etc.:

(even if I am somewhat mixed up to see so much non-active players in so much products, there is no rules, but I always felt most of the cards should be for the players of current season, with “few” exceptions or parallel, just like score did with Bobby Orr and Maurice Richard back them, or UD did with their Hockey Heroes subset, but now lot of set have Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Gretzky, etc. and year after year — at least most of them are players that are on top of the crop AND that sell well usually)

And since they are “rare”, completing the original set would be a challenge with those cards and make the set more valuable in my eyes. But if you have no interest in past set, then it can be useless for you.

You can see them as rare parallel too if you don’t like they are for old set, but I understand that with non-active or poor/average players that you might not be that excited for the price you pay.

Still Owen Collette, your dual auto with Benn on it is far from being crap. Benn is quite in demand. And like all product there are wanted and non-wanted players in all subset/set/etc.

Talking about the product player quality… like the year Schwartz and Kreider where the “main hits”, rookie selection/value was quite poor, at least at first it seemed so, I may forget some players. Not their fault I guess because those were the rookies that year. Does that make these two players’ cards more valuable than they would be if they were the same years of a Crosby, Toews, Stamkos, etc. Maybe it can be considered the best you can get and sell quite high, but in practice people will just pay less if they are not that wanted, because they base their buy on popularity/desire and a bit about rarity, and those are not the “most wanted” (they are still interesting/good players, just they have not yet proved they can be of the level of the others I mentionned right before). Schwartz has the advantage to wear number 9, and therefore havs a couple of rare parallel! Like his The Cup Gold Rookie /9.

Everyone expect to get hits and good hits in all product, else the product get a bad rate. I think there is actually too much offers and sometime “good products” will get poor rate because everyone expect to get a “high-value” patch+auto card of Mackinnon!

How many Crosby (or any other top player) cards there is in his rookie years? Of course there are a few (19+?) considered “true RC”, but still, the answer is probably more within 200-500 different cards per year…

We still have good players in a base set, but we cannot resale them at the same price that the product really cost it with packs (even with hits it is not rare to not reach pack’s cost when someone resell).

In my time (LOL), a Pro-Set hologram, even thought there was thousands of them, was a very very very rare hit, and one of the few hits available (the Roy and McClean auto were also hits, but they had 1000+ of each if I am not mistaken, but they were the only limited ones).

How many hit a 1990-91 upper deck had? ;-) OK things changed… maybe retro stuff are for me. I quite enjoyed Fleer Retro and Fleer Showcase products. And they were more affordable in general than lot of products.

Great product as usual, pulled a Gretzky Authentic Moments gold auto card #168 in the set. Would love to know the print run on it, only found 2 on ebay and none on forums for trade or sale. They say 1:7800 & 1:28,000 packs on it on each auction. Best part is I opened a box 12-13 SPA and pulled a Gretzky Marks of Distinction /25 in the same day.

Despite redemption of Mackinnon, Gallagher and some others and no Crosby auto in the set, the auto cards quality is excellent, beautiful patches, future watch with a good look and the awesome authentic moments auto with gold ink, make of this product a sure bet with a good value on the secondary market.

Disagree with above comments. I bought two cases and did awesome. A Mackinnon patch auto to a 100 was my main hit. I hit many cards in the $70-100 range.

4 hits in my box, 3 Future Watch Autos (J. Schroeder, Z. Girgensons [Redemption], and Alexsander Barkov!) then in the last pack Morgan Reilly Rookie Auto Patch /100. Very fun product

Split a case with a customer. 3 Patches including a gold Orr. A Galchenyuck 1 per 12 cases auto, a Kessell 1/5.5 cases auto a slew of good rookies(some boxes came with 4 autos), and 2 Premier sigs /75. A great product for us and we can’t keep it in stock

I agree with Owen Collete. I also been getting players auto rookie from previous years.. How fair is this, that you pay a high end box price for low end cards. This is out right unfair

Nice product. I pulled a SOT-BS Brent Seabrook. Sweet pull. The card is 1:5140. My rating was low because I guess I got my hopes up to pull a high end card like a redemption.

I was so excited for this product after Showcase. I thought UD had done a really good job on that product. At first I thought this was a pretty good product, but after seeing a few cases cracked it was really disappointing. The Future watch cards look great and it was nice not to not see a throw away Sign of the Times Auto in every box, but there is a huge issue with this product. A quater of the hits are not even from this year! We are not talking about cool buy back sp autos (there are a few of these), but old autos and patch autos that date back as far as 2009. most of the time these are not bonus hits, but count as one of the three hits. In one case I saw a Vokoun auto and patch auto both from 09-10. He has not been a starting goalie for three years and should not be in this product. In that same case the dual auto was from a previous year Benn/Glennie and another patch auto as well (Gaborik in NY uniform). Is it just me or does that seem ridiculous that the case hits in a product are from previous years and of players that would not even make this higher end product anymore. So since Upper Deck couldn’t get you out these hits that you didn’t want to pull two + years ago…..don’t fret you can pull them now when they are absolutley worthless. Like stated previously the cards from this year are nice, but way too much crap from previous years. It is not fair to collectors and flat out wrong.

These card companies need to come out with a checklist sooner so collectors can prepare. I hope there is some Jamie benn cards in here.
