Product Details
SP Authentic is one of those brands where things don't usually change a lot from year-to-year. Sure, there are some tweaks here and there, but most of the themes and inserts are likely recognizable to longtime collectors. 2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball stays the course, offering three autographs per box. Among the tweaks and shifts: memorabilia cards featuring pieces of floor used by LeBron James while he was in high school.
One of the promised autographs per box is a By the Letter Signatures card that's numbered to 75 or less. These use a manufactured letter patch as the basis for the design.
Sign of the Times, a brand staple, return with anywhere from one to four signatures per card. There are also randomly inserted buyback autographs. These are original cards from past sets signed by the player. Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Karl Malone, Anfernee Hardaway and Grant Hill are among those with buyback autographs. Additional autographs include unnumbered base set parallels and Gold parallels (#/3).
Supreme Court is a set dedicated to LeBron James. Each card comes with a piece of the floor he won high school state titles on. Supreme Court cards have three basic tiers: Common (1:144 packs), Uncommon (1:216 packs) and Rare (1:432 packs). Autographed cards also exist.
On Court Authentics have a shadow box-style design. These moderately rare inserts fall 1:72 packs, or every third box. Autographed versions are also randomly inserted.
Flashback Rookie FX cards use the 2009-10 SP Authentic design. Regular versions land 1:4 packs while Flashback Rookie FX Film parallels are 1:72 packs. Both have autographed versions as well.
Rounding out the set's basic chase component are Canvas Collection cards. Both Rookies and Veterans are inserted 1:12 packs. This makes four total per box.
Every 12-box case of 2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball has three Ultimate Collection bonus packs. Each of these comes with an autographed book card. Ulimate Rookie Booklet Signatures are numbered to 250 or less. Ulimtate Legendary Booklet Signatures are limited to no more than 60 copies each.
The 2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball base set has 50 cards.

Product Review
2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball Product Review
Reviewed by Ryan Cracknell
Good: Several nice designs, solid mix of current and retired players, lots of autographs.
Bad: Base set is too small, lack of autographs from top rookies.
The Bottom Line: A couple of things stood out for me with 2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball. The big one was how cool many of the high-end inserts looked. The other was how small the base set is. The result was a ton of duplicates including a full second set. While the big focus is on autographs, I can’t help but wonder how much strong the product could be as a whole with a little more balance between base cards and short prints.
Card Design: 3.5/5.0
One of highlights for me in 2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball is the look of some of the premium cards in the product. On Court Authentics (and their autographed parallels) look like something out of Exquisite. The same with the Ultimate Rookie Signatures box toppers. Yet, here they are in a product that’s a couple of notches cheaper. Another positive is the amount of on-card signatures.
The base set doesn’t hit the same high notes, though. While there’s an obvious high-end quality about them when you handle them, they’re plain to a fault. The colorless backgrounds and grey design elements may help the player stand out, but it makes for a very bland and not very memorable look. It’s even more disappointing when you compare it with many of the set’s other elements.
Checklist: 3.0/5.0
As with any Upper Deck product, it’s your only chance at landing a Michael Jordan or LeBron James autograph. It’s an intriguing prospect. However, they’re not the only great players in this product. As far as autographs go, it’s got a nice balance of young players, current stars and retired players. Even if they aren’t all superstars at the NBA level, Upper Deck has done a good job of landing some players who shone at college. Given that these are NCAA products, it’s a great way to create leverage for the product.
The exclusive thing works both ways though. With Panini locking up a lot of the 2013-14 rookies, it means that some of the key players like Michael Carter-Williams and Trey Burke aren’t in here.
My biggest issue with the checklist is the base set. At 50 cards, it’s way too small for a product with this configuration. Sure, they’re all meaningful players, but when you have that many doubles and are still a long way away from all of the short prints, it’s disappointing. That said, the fix here might be in the box and not in the checklist. There’s a big difference between the hits here and the base cards. Why not shrink the box in half? It increases the odds on landing a hit and cuts down on the duplicates.
Value: 3.6/5.0
This is another product where Upper Deck has done a good job of threading in content that adds value. Individually, the LeBron Supreme Court cards, Ultimate box toppers and On Court Authentics are tough. But combine them together, and the chances of landing a premium "extra" are solid. By looking beyond NBA superstars and focusing on college standouts from the past, it also adds some nice intrigue.
That said, boxes aren’t cheap and you’re ultimately left to who you pull. Upper Deck has done a better job than most every other company at lessening that with these extras.
The Fun Factor: 3.5/5.0
I enjoyed the autographs and inserts of 2013-14 SP Authentic Basketball a lot. However, the base set was bland. This is where I spend a lot of time with my cards, looking them over, sorting through them and organizing them. With a bland design and small checklist, it was disappointing. However, when I look at everything else that came in the box, there was a lot of cool stuff to enjoy.

Do they still use groups for their autographs like canvas collection? Like they used to put harder to pull/scarcer auto’s in group A, and B. and keep going down or did they stop doing that? i cant find the odds of pulling a canvas coll. rc auto per pack anywhere? help??
