2012 Upper Deck Avengers Assemble Autographs Gallery and Checklist
2012 Upper Deck Avengers Assemble is the third film-based Marvel set from the card manufacturer in the past year (they also did Iron Man 2 in 2010). While 2011's Thor and Captain America sets arrived with mixed results and paltry autograph checklists, 2012 Upper Deck Avengers Assemble is loaded.
Not a ton was known about the set prior to its release other than confirmed signatures of Chris Hemsworth (Thor), two-time Oscar nominee, Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and How I Met Your Mother's Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill). However, there are some unannounced surprises in the form of previously unreleased autographs from last year's sets. From Thor, signatures of Kat Dennings, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore made their way into Avengers Assemble. A Bruno Ricci autograph was done with the Captain America design. All autographs use clear stickers.
Although the main focus of 2012 Upper Deck Avengers Assemble is the summer blockbuster that brings together several top Marvel franchises, the set also looks at the films that preceded it. That makes the inclusion of the additional autographs from last year's movies somewhat appropriate.
Hemsworth, who signed for Thor, and Feore are the only two actors in the set who have official autographed cards before 2012 Upper Deck Avengers Assemble.
It is also worth noting that while it was never promised, Upper Deck's original sales solicitations pictured a Scarlett Johannson autograph. The card was just a mock-up and is not a part of the release.
Autographs combine with Ultimate Panel cards (essentially the comic book equivalent of a memorabilia card) to fall two per case.
