Variations and different relic combinations have always been part of the Topps Triple Threads formula. 2012 Topps Triple Threads Football is proving to be no different. Several rookie cards have variations while others appear to be short printed.

Basic 2012 Topps Triple Threads Football rookie cards are limited to 99 numbered copies, making them some of the rarest of the year so far. However, many players have a pair of rookie cards. The basic look is the same, but the die-cut windows used to display the relic pieces vary.
These windows fall under the following patterns:
- Team/RC
- Jersey Number/Position
- Initials/Helmet Icon
- Three Plain Squares
Further complicating matters are apparent short prints for several top players and may mean no official rookie cards for them in the set. Top picks Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson are all part of this group. They still have lots of autographs in the set, including parallel cards that use the base design. However, these parallels have different colored background and most collectors won't consider them part of the the base set.

It is worth noting that 2012 Topps Triple Threads Football was just released. It's very possible that everyone does have base cards.
