2012 Topps Football Variations Short Prints Guide
Love them or pretend like they don't exist, variations are here to stay. And judging by the number of 2012 Topps Football variations short prints, they're getting bigger. The set has 29 veteran variations and 26 rookies including two separate Andrew Luck cards.
This year's crop includes both rookie and veteran players. And falling less than one per case, individual cards are going to be tough to come by once 2012 Topps Football starts to dry up. Players include most of the hobby's biggest stars heading into the season.
On the rookie side, Andrew Luck has two variations. The first has a rabbits foot and a horseshoe replacing the "U" in his last name. The other pictures the first overall pick with two hands on the football. Other first-year standouts with variations include Robert Griffin III, Trent Richardson and Justin Blackmon.
Veterans on the 2012 Topps Football variation short prints checklist include quarterbacks Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady and Cam Newton. The final Topps checklist sorts them into three groups: Breakout Performance, Ultimate Achievement and Postseason Heroics.
2012 Topps Football short print variations are usually pretty easy to spot. Most have a very different action shot or jersey. Many of the rookies can be discerned by distinct portrait poses. These cards can be found in both hobby and retail packs.
