User Rating:

It has been a decade since the last set dedicated to Star Trek Voyager was produced. While the show is not held in the same regard as Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation, it is still respected among sci-fi fans. With so many sets focused on all things Star Trek, it's time to revisit Voyager. 2012 Rittenhouse The Quotable Star Trek Voyager brings familiar elements from other Star Trek sets to give the show its due.

Every box promises three autographs. Key lead actors include Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Robert Picardo (The Doctor) and Roxann Dawson (Torres). Guest stars adding signatures to the set include John Rhys Davies (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3), Virginia Madsen (Oscar nominee for Sideways) and Michael McKean (Laverne & Shirley, Best in Show).

Other insert sets include Best of the Holodeck (nine cards, 1:12 packs), U.S.S. Voyager Ship Cards (nine cards, 1:12 packs), Starfleet's Finest (nine cards, 1:24 packs) and Star Trek Voyager Communicator Pin Cards (ten cards, 1:96 packs). The Communicator Pin Cards are like Topps' manufactured relics. They are not from show-worn costumes. The first nine Communicator Pin Cards are numbered to 250. The final card in the set is exclusive to the Rittenhouse Rewards Catalog and is limited to 100 numbered copies.

The 2012 Rittenhouse The Quotable Star Trek Voyager base set has 72 cards. Each has a pair of notable quotes from the show.

Like most every Rittenhouse set, there are several incentive cards for those ordering in bulk. Every sealed case comes with a Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway costume card. The three-case incentive is Delta Flyer prop card. Mulgrew returns for the six-case incentive with an autographed costume card. Those ordering 18 cases get a 2012 Rittenhouse The Quotable Star Trek Voyager Archive Box that includes every pack-inserted card.

2012 Rittenhouse The Quotable Star Trek Voyager also has a binder that comes with an exclusive promo card.

Product Review

2012 Rittenhouse The Quotable Star Trek Voyager Product Review

Reviewed by Ryan Cracknell

Good: High-quality feel, great autograph checklist, fills a gap in the Star Trek trading card line.

Bad: Repetitive look to base cards, not much for those who aren't extremely familiar with the show.

The Bottom Line: The first set for the show in a decade, The Quotable Star Trek Voyager is led by a tremendous autograph checklist. Nearly all of the main cast signed as well as a handful of actors who are more famous for their work outside of the show. The theme and design have been used for other corners of the Trek Universe so it adds some continuity. All that said, unless you're a big-time Voyager fan, the quotes probably aren't going to mean a lot. The quality of the cards is fantastic. They have a premium feel throughout, offering a variety of strong designs.

Staff Rating:
3.8 / 5.0

Card Design: 3.5/5.0

The base set design sticks with other Quotable Star Trek releases. A small photo is at the top of the card with a black box holding a quote from the show. Card backs follow same pattern. It's a very clean look. However, it's also very repetitive. The photos have a similar waist-up shot on nearly every card. Once you see that two times of each of the set's 72 cards, the familiarity gets to be a little much. That said, they're very high quality with a glossy finish and strong card stock.

All of the inserts share a similar high quality. They also have a nice variety of looks and technologies. Best of the Holodeck and U.S.S. Voyager are the plainest. They stand out well but don't necessarily carry a lot of punch. That's saved for the Starfleet's Finest and Communicator Pin cards. Finest cards mix foil with embossed backgrounds. Communicator Pin cards have manufactured relics resembling the iconic Star Trek logo found on all of the uniforms.

Topping it off are the autographs, which come in two different designs, both of which have a nice balance of image and white space. As always with Rittenhouse products, signatures are on-card.

Checklist: 4.5/5.0

The autograph checklist is, perhaps, the strongest part of 2012 Rittenhouse Quotable Star Trek Voyager. Not only does it deliver much of the main cast, but several notable guests as well. Among them are Academy Award nominee Virgina Madsen, John Rhys-Davies, Andy Dick and Kristanna Loken. These guests add some appeal to collectors who might not be as familiar with Voyager.

The insert sets also carry a strong balance of being attainable and holding some value. The variety of designs is also refreshing when busting a bunch of packs at a time.

Value: 3.5/5.0

This is one of those sets where collectors shouldn't go in making a lot of money. It's extremely unlikely that you're going to get your money back. But with the large number of limited autographs, it helps keep prices in line. It's a balancing act. The value in this set is in putting it together and going through it.

The Fun Factor: 3.8/5.0

If you're a Voyager fan, this is bound to be a very strong release. You'll connect with the quotes, get excited about all of the crew autographs and enjoy the nuances of the inserts. If you're not familiar with the show, it's more of an uphill battle. You'll be looking for the guest stars and scratching your head as to why some of the lines are considered "quotable." But the strong quality throughout the release is impressive and easy to enjoy, fan or not.
