2012-13 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Cards

Like the set especially considering it has the top scorers from the previous year. If considering in the future sets or an update I would like to offer my opinion of adding one tough guy from every team as fighters are highly loved. Vancouver – Weise, Minnesota – Kassian, Edmonton – Eager, Phoenix – Bissonette, Dallas – Dowell, Nashville – McGrattan, Detroit – Abdelkader, Chicago – Mayers, Columbus – Boll, Pittsburgh – Engelland, Philadelphia – Rinaldo, New Jersey – Jannsen, Buffalo – McCormick, Toronto – Brown, Montreal – Staubitz, Florida – Barch, Winnipeg – Thorburn and the rest were already covered. Just my humble opinion but the tough guys have a cult like following.

Also, not mentioned in any product summaries or reviews that I have read are blank-backed versions of the retro parallel set. Don’t know how many there are, but I got one of Max Pacioretty.

One thing to add… In each of two boxes I opened there was not one double, which I think is pretty good. Also, I got 5 black border rainbow foil cards from the two boxes. If this is anywhere near average, it suggests a print run of about 24,000 boxes. It would be interesting to hear how many of these cards other people got from a box.

I’ve collected OPC for years, but not all that seriously since UD took over the brand. There was a time when with a bit of effort you could put together a complete set of OPC including inserts, then move on to other things, such as finishing older sets of OPC. The UD approach, which totally makes sense from the perspective of a card company, is to keep you buying their new product by releasing large insert sets that are difficult, even impossible, to complete. Original OPC inserts were one per pack, and rarely was the set more than 30 cards. Nowadays we get 100 logo cards at 1 per 3 boxes. Parallel sets of parallel sets (yawn)… I guess most remaining collectors are okay with this, but I’m not really interested in putting together partial sets and I suspect many former collectors gave up on the hobby for this reason. I like the wrapper redemption idea, but cannot find a list of CDD dealers to send them to. As for the cards, they are nice enough – certainly up to UD’s high standards, however, I find the backs of the regular set hard to read. The cardboard seems a bit dark – more like the way 80’s Topps cards looked next to their OPC counterpart. I’ll buy a few more packs, but not that many.

really like this set because it brings back memories to the collectors who have been collecting since the 80’s-90’s because back then O-Pee-Chee was one of the few sets out there. Even though it is considered a low end set a lot of collects still like to purchase this product because you have a chance to get a nice autograph or a jersey card. The one thing I don’t like about this set is there are too many base cards for the collectors who try to collect the base set it is kind of hard with so many cards! Something I always liked about OPC was the expansiveness of their sets. This is no different with 500 base cards. Like most kids, my son likes putting stickers on his door. The inclusion of the stickers makes him eager to rip each pack. We were fortunate to be able to take part in the wrapper redemption program in Canada. It’s nice to get rewarded for not doing anything other that what you normally would be doing; buying cards. The long list random is really cool. We’ve opened everything from patches to autographed cards.

Really like this product, this is what I am buying for my son to get him into collecting. Lots of variants, some chrome, overall very good. Great for collecting sets, and having the wrapper redemption is a plus! If you plan on buying then selling to make money on this, do so RIGHT as it’s released. BIG drop in card prices just a couple weeks after release.

HI; I’ve been collecting since 1952 so I have some idea what I am talking about
and the only reason I gave it a 3 is about
the quality of the cards. I have also ran a
card shop for years so I have sure seen a
lot of cards come and go.
Probably took me about 14 boxes to
put a 500 card set together but I still
enjoy dabbling with them. Never saw an
autograph card or team logo though.
