2012-13 Panini Rookie Anthology Hockey Silhouette Guide 1When a collectors mentions Silouette cards, the look is instantly recognizable. No matter the sport or year, the use of a large jersey piece placed over top of a die-cut player image is unmistakable. Add an autograph, usually on-card, and you've got a recipe for one of the hobby's most popular card types. 2012-13 Panini Rookie Anthology Hockey includes a large number of Silhouettes that mix veterans, all-time greats and retired players.

In all, the release has 87 different Silhouette cards (card 21 does not exist). They're divided into three separate sections, although all are numbered to run together. The first 20 are jersey cards from current and retired players. They are not signed. Nineteen Silhouette Signatures include some of the NHL's top names of the past and present. Mario Lemieux, Jonathan Toews, Gordie Howe and Eric Lindros are among them. Neither the basic versions of the Silhouette or Silhouette Signatures are numbered. Parallels with prime swatches and patches are numbered and in very short supply.

The final 48 2012-13 Panini Rookie Anthology Silhouette cards are rookies. The entire Rookie Silhouette Prime set is numbered to 99. The checklist includes players who debuted late in 2011-12. 2012-13 rookies won't get cards until 2013-14 products because of the labor dispute that shortened the season.

Ryan is a former member of The Cardboard Connection Writing Staff.   His collecting origins began with winter bike rides to the corner store, tossing a couple of quarters onto the counter and peddling home with a couple packs of O-Pee-Chee hockey in his pocket. Today, he continues to build sets, go after inserts with cool technologies, chase Montreal Expos and finish off his John Jaha master collection.
