2009 Topps National Chicle Football Product Review

2009 Topps National Chicle Football Product Review

Staff Rating:
4.5 / 5.0

2009 Topps National Chicle Football is one of the best vintage products I've ever opened. The art used for the cards is inspired, imaginative, refreshing, and does justice to the game of Football. What's even cooler is they used artists from Videogames, Comics, Sports, and various other walks of life. Topps National Chicle is Topps Mayo done right. Chicle is the story of football, done in an artistic manor that perfectly suits the sport of modern Gladiators.

The Checklist is absolutely fantastic, they included legends, rookies, and current stars. What's even more impressive is the autograph checklist that includes the likes of Brett Favre, Joe Montana, John Elway, Troy Aikman, and even BARRY SANDERS!!! The dual auto checklist is also pretty awesome. It includes 2 cards that should especially interest Vikings fans; an Adrian Peterson/Percy Harvin Dual Auto and a Brett Favre/Adrian Peterson Dual!

Earlier in the year, Topps Magic captured the imaginations of collectors including myself. I put together the Master Set outside of the Autos. As much as I loved Magic, I think that National Chicle is even better. The Mini's are a little bigger and the product has a little more polish. The only problem is the "Bazooka Backs" and numerous other mini parallels can cause problems for set builders.

All in all, Topps National Chicle is a landmark achievement in Sports Cards. I seriously can't stop flipping through them. I've never been so drawn in by the artwork of card. At times, it's feels like players are looking at you. The only thing that felt missing was a Joe Nammath wearing a fur coat card, or at the very least one of him hitting on Suzy Kolber on the sideline of a Monday Night Football game. As a 27 year old, those are my fondest memories of  "Broadway Joe".

Very late to the party on these, but does anyone know how rare the autos are? I haven’t been able to locate pack odds and the two I’m looking at on eBay seem priced pretty steep compared to other products.

I just opened a few packs of this product. I got an Andre Caldwell card #C178 and thought nothing of it. Next pack I opened it had an Andre Caldwell mini card in it. It has rookie card stamped below the national chicle brand. Has anyone else come across this error card???

I have to agree with you on this one. This was one of my favorite products of the last year or two. Would definitely recommend giving it a shot.
