User Rating:

1984 was a good year for football cards. A very good year. 1984 Topps USFL Football is one of the greatest sets of the decade, complimenting the competing and equally impressive 1984 Topps Football set very nicely. Limited availability and a potent checklist have made 1984 Topps USFL Football on of the most valuable sets from its era.

1984 Topps USFL Football Cards 11984 Topps USFL Football was distributed as a 132-card box set, much like the Topps Traded Baseball sets from the time. The cards focused on the upstart league, which managed to attract many top players. The checklist includes the first major cards of such all-time greats as Steve Young, Reggie White and Jim Kelly.

Cards take on the patriotic feel of the league's logo, which is at the top of the card. The Red and blue continues with a ribbon border around the outside of the card. The nameplate sits at the bottom. It includes the team name, player name name and position. A helmet icon includes the team logo.

Relatively rare compared to other sets of the decade, 1984 Topps USFL Football has aged very well. Because they come from a different league, it's debatable to some whether first-year standouts are rookie cards. Either way, they are much more valuable than their eventual debuts on NFL cardboard.

One of my favorite sets of all-time. I loved spring football and I still haven’t forgiven Donald Trump for insisting that the USFL try to move to a fall schedule.
