McFarlane Toys has had great success in the figurine market because of their ability to create genuine, lifelike pieces. Like with sports card, in order for a McFarlane SportsPicks figure to remain collectible, it should be kept in mint condition and, most importantly, in its original packaging. Although marketed as a “toy" company, McFarlae essentially created a product that prohibited the figures from actually being played with, particularly with their numerous variants and ultra-rare autographed versions.
Enter MLB Playmakers. Standing three inches tall, the figures include multiple points of articulation, allowing them to be posed and, more importantly, played with. The upcoming Playmakers 3 lineup was recently announced, which will consist of the following players:
- Adrian Gonzalez
- Robinson Cano
- Starlin Castro
- Cliff Lee
- Buster Posey
- Derek Jeter
- Josh Hamilton
- Jacoby Ellsbury
Playmakers 3 is scheduled to hit store shelves in February, 2012.
In addition to the new Playmakers line, McFarlane will also be releasing their SportsPicks MLB 29 figures in February. Players included are:
- Alex Rodriguez
- Carl Crawford
- Starlin Castro
- Cliff Lee
- Troy Tulowitzki
- Josh Hamilton
- Thurman Munson
For Rodriguez, Hamilton and Munson, the figures will feature new poses, while Crawford and Lee will be in their new uniforms for the first time. Castro and Tulowitzki are both making their McFarlane debuts.
