Another blast from the hobby past, 2021 Wild Card Matte Football reboots the popular brand from the 1990s. The premium set comes in BLK (Black) and WHT (White) editions. Each Premier Edition Hobby box contains 18 autographs.
Home of "The Original Parallel," collectors may recall the classic Wild Card Stripe cards.
Similar to Leaf and Sage, the prospect football set features some of the top collegiate players ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, these cards carry no official league or team licensing.
2021 Wild Card Matte Black Football Set Details
Limited to 300 cases, 2021 Wild Card Matte BLK Football arrives first. Every box has six packs and that includes four BLK packs alongside two of the chase Red "Fire" versions. Look for three autographs per pack.
The overall set contains 22 players that are either quarterbacks or expected to go in the first round. All cards are numbered and all autographs are hard-signed.
In addition to numbered base cards, 2021 Wild Card Matte BLK Football offers signatures in Thumbagraphs, with an actual thumbprint, plus Smoking Guns, X-Plode and Red Hot Rookie. These cards each feature eight parallels limited to 50 or less.
Unsigned cards include the famed Stripes lineup, which covers the base set with 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1,000-card parallels.
Another choice is the retro Stat Smashers.
2021 Wild Card Matte White Football Set Details
In round two, the 2021 Wild Card Matte WHT Football format is virtually identical to BLK.
Instead of chase Red "Fire" packs, there are Blue "Ice" packs.
2021 Wild Card Matte Mega Box Football Set Details
Beyond the high-priced, autograph-driven releases, there is also a Retail-style Mega Box format for 2021 Wild Card Matte Football.
Billed as the "All Rookie Card Edition," there are themed Black and White boxes with a possible "Chase Pack" inside. The total set includes 70 players.
Each box contains five Mega Box exclusives: Bronze Weekend Warriors, Pink X-plode, Red Holo Red Hot Rookies, Smoking Guns and Stripes.
The Mega boxes do not have autographs, but the Mega Premium format offers one autograph per box.
Silver Mega Boxes have Emerald Green chase packs and Gold Mega Boxes have Purple chase packs. These each offer exclusive base cards, matching the box color, along with silver or gold border parallel editions. The Insider Trader Silver/Gold Mega Boxes appear to be online exclusives. Each Insider Trader box apparently has one autograph.
