Evel Knievel was one of the 20th Century's greatest showmen. Best known for his stunts, particularly daredevil motorcycle jumps, Evel Knievel captured the imagination of a generation boys and girls. He was also a marketing genius. 1974 Topps Evel Knievel trading cards are a piece of lasting evidence of that savvy.
Distributed as a test issue, 1974 Topps Evel Knievel cards are noticeably rarer than other sets from the same era. This has helped the set maintain solid values on the secondary market.
The 60-card set has a patriotic feel to it, much like Evel Knievel's instantly recognizable suits. Cards have a blue border with a red stripe running down the side. Inside the stripe are white stars. A pair of additional stars are on both sides of the card's caption. Photos include a mix of shots from various stunts and promotional shots.
1974 Topps Evel Knievel card backs are blue and have a head-on illustration of Evel Knievel on his motorcycle. Next to that is a writeup placed inside a grey box. There is also an Evel Knievel heading above the writeup.
Distributed in cello packs, each came with one Auto Sticker. These 22 stickers are actually reprints from 1970 Topps Way Out Wheels. Each sticker-card has 16 mini stickers with various car-related logos.
