The 1965 Topps Baseball set features a checklist of 598 cards which is packed with a mouth watering assortment of big name rookie cards. Among these are 1st year cards of Steve Carlton, Joe Morgan, Jim Hunter, Tony Perez, and Denny McLain. Veterans include Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente, Pete Rose, and Ernie Banks.
There were no multiplayer combo cards (other then Team Rookie Combos) issued in the 1965 Topps Baseball set. Instead they were issued in supplemental sets like Embossed, Transfers, and Bazooka.
The base set subsets in 1965 Topps Baseball are:
- League Leaders: #1-12
- World Series Highlights: #132-139
- Topps Rookie Stars
- Team Rookie Star Combos
- Checklists
Topps included the teams’ standing from the previous season on the fronts of the team cards. There were no Astros team cards made in the 1960s, so for that reason, there are no cards for “Astros, 9th place – National League.â€
