Back in 1997 I went to one of my very first card shops and discovered a brand new product that had just been released. It was called 1997 Upper Deck Legends football cards. The owner of the shop said that there were four autographs per box. I could see that the box was quite full so I decided to pick up a few packs. Little did I know that 1997 Upper Deck Legends would go on to be one of the most popular sets for collectors to build. After leaving the store, I couldn't wait until I got home to rip them open. In the car I remember ripping into them like I was a starving person on a desert island and I had just found a candybar. I couldn't believe what I pulled out of the very first pack. In my hands was a Lem Barney autographed card. I was so happy that I pulled an autograph from just a pack. After receiving that first "hit", I became hooked on that product. I opened many more packs of Legends and received a lot of autographs. This leaves me with one question to ask. Do you remember the first autographed card you pulled from a single pack? If so, please let us know. It is always interesting to hear about a collector's first autograph pull.

I’ve always had terrible luck getting “hits” from packs. The first autograph I ever pulled was a Ken Huckaby card from some random pack in one of those 10 packs for $10 repacks Toys R Us likes to sell. It was neat to get an autograph, but I have to admit - my initial reaction was “Ken who?”
The only other autos I’ve pulled were some equally forgettable guys from the Topps 52 Rookies set last year.

Jack Youngblood 99 Upper Deck Century Legends, and I still have it. Back to the 1997 UD Legends let me tell you there is no set like that, I have the base set and I never get tired to look at it, terrific pics, good info, awesome players, no other “Legends” set has been even close to this. Unfortunately I don’t have any auto from this set, maybe in the future…

I had just gotten back into the hobby and loved the look of the 2006 Topps Turkey Red. The first autograph I pulled was a redemption for a Ryan Howard, the second was Johan Santana. Since then I have not been so lucky and have only pulled mediocre autos.

Just like zips, the first autographed card pull that I had was when I returned to the hobby in 2006. I was busting a box of 1997 Bowman Baseball and pulled a Derek Jeter Autograph! The odds of pulling an autograph from 1997 Bowman were something like 1 in 1700 packs. I have had some good - even great - pulls since then, but none have been quite as exciting.
