Everyone likes something extra for no additional cost. Topps is hoping to take advantage of that fact by adding additional content to the upcoming edition of one of its most expensive products, Topps Sterling Baseball.
Originally, packs of 2009 Sterling Baseball were scheduled to have three numbered base cards, one autographed relic (memorabilia) card or relic card numbered to 10 or less, plus a mystery pack containing either a cut signature card (1:10 packs) or a parallel card. This week, Topps announced each pack will have an additional relic card numbered to 25 or less.
In addition, the theming of the product is also changing. In previous years, every pack was player-specific, with the name of the featured player printed on the pack.
The 2009 set is based around broader themes like "Triple Crown Winners" and "Charter Hall of Fame Members." Topps promises the same roster of legends, including Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson and Babe Ruth, will still be well represented in the new configuration.
Sterling Baseball is currently expected to ship just before the end of the year. Expect to pay around $250 to $300 per five-card pack/box.
