Topps has announced that New England Patriot's WR Wes Welker has been selected as the final autograph subject for the 2008 etopps Football Card Set. A total of 50 etopps cards will be signed by Welker. Wes Welker has only appeared on one etopps card to date - card #30 from the 2007 etopps Football Set.  Etopps account holders who possess this card can pay to have it autographed during Welker's etopps autograph session starting this Thursday, January 08, 2009 at 3:00 PM EST until Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 3:00 AM EST.  Autographs will be allocated on a first come / first serve basis.

Donruss has brought the hardwood to the gridiron in their upcoming release of 2008 Playoff Contenders Football.  Three of this year's top NBA Rookie Draft Picks - O.J. Mayo, Michael Beasley, and Derrick Rose - will be included in the product.  They will appear atop Rookie Ticket Autograph cards as part of the 2008 Playoff Contenders Football Set.

Upper Deck has announced an addition to what was arguably their most popular football card product of the 90's, 1997 Legends Football.  Legends was one of the first sets to offer an abundance of autographed card inserts in every box.  The set features a great checklist of autographed cards and has maintained its popularity among football card collectors even to this day.

However, a number of the most recent NFL Legends were not represented in the set.  The likes of Brett Farve, Jerry Rice, Troy Aikmen, and Steve Young made for some rather glaring omissions to an otherwise excellent product.

Collectors will have their first opportunity to add those players to their 1997 Legends set when 2008 Ultimate Collection Football releases on February 11, 2009.  These new cards will have the same classic design as the ‘97 Legends set and all autographs will be hard-signed on the cards. The cards will also be numbered as part of the ‘97 set. Collectors can find one ‘97 Legends update autograph card per case on average.

“Collectors have been waiting for us to resurrect this set for some time,” said Brandon Miller, Upper Deck brand manager for football. “It was important enough to us that if we did it, we did it by providing collectors with the players who were not available on the initial checklist. Well, we’ve accomplished just that so football fans should be thrilled to add these cards to their set.”

Upper Deck has announced that future hall of famer Bruce Smith has signed cards for two of their late season 2008 Football Card Products.  The 11 time Pro Bowl Defensive End doesn't typically sign autographs for trading card companies, making his John Hancock somewhat of a scarcity in the marketplace.  Smith has autographed cards for both 2008 SP Rookie Edition Football and 2008 Ultimate Collection Football.

Bruce Smith hasn’t signed for trading card companies in ages so his inclusion in new sets is obviously exciting news for collectors. Smith is featured as a member of Washington Redskins where he retired with the NFL record of 200 career sacks.  Two signature cards were released of the “Sack Man” in 2008 SP Rookie Edition Football. Only one has surfaced on e-Bay so far and it is currently available for close to $60 with over four days remaining.

For 2008 Ultimate Collection Football he will be included in the Legends Autograph set. This special set features newer legends that were still playing when this famous 1997 Upper Deck Legends set was initially released. He will join other legends like Troy Aikman, John Elway, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice and more.

2008 SP Rookie Edition Football is currently available for purchase, but collectors will have to wait until February 11th of next year to purchase 2008 Ultimate Collection Football.
