San Diego State flamethrower Stephen Strasburg, who was recently called the "Best Prospect Ever" by ESPN, looked the part of a future MLB ace Friday night, throwing a no-hitter in a 5-0 victory over Air Force. The win improved Strasburg's record to a perfect 11-0 on the season.
Strasburg struck out 17 and walked two in front of a school-record crowd of 3,337 in what was likely his final appearance at his home stadium. The no hitter lowered Straburg's season ERA down to an anemic 1.24 with 164 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings of work.
Strasburg reflected on his no hitter in an interview posted on his school's Web site, saying, "There's a few pitches that I got away with that they fouled back that were kind of up and in the zone. When it came crunch time and I needed a punchout or I needed to get a groundball, I was able to do that."
Strasburg is expected to go first overall in this year's MLB Draft, a pick which belongs to the Washington Nationals. His stock in the collecting community also continues to rise, with all of his key rookie cards continuing to skyrocket in value.
