1978 New York Yankees Championship Ring

1978 New York Yankees Championship Ring

This 1978 New York Yankees Championship ring is made by Balfour, is sized to 11-11.5 and weighs 1.1 ounces. The '78 Yankees rings are unique in that they are stamped on the inside "Greatest Comeback in History" referring to the fact that they were 14 games behind the Red Sox for the AL Pennant in mid July. The Yankees would finish 48-20 down the stretch after replacing Billy Martin with Bob Lemon forcing the famous 1 game playoff in Boston where Bucky Dent forever became a household name smacking a 3 run HR sending the Yankees to the World Series with a 5-4 defeat of the Red Sox. The real 14K gold ring has real diamonds and has the name of a front office member on the flank "ZEILER". Along with the unique stamping inside is the "BALFOUR 14K" stamp. The '78 Yankee Rings are particularly difficult to obtain with the last one offered (Thurman Munson) commanding $97,750.

Mike Smeth is the Owner of The Cardboard Connection. After collecting baseball cards for much of his youth, he took a 12-year hiatus from the hobby. One muggy summer day in 2006 he unexpectedly came across his childhood baseball card collection while packing up for an upcoming move. With every intention of selling them on Craigslist, Mike began sorting through them. Somewhere between the 3rd and 4th box, he rediscovered his passion for collecting and hasn't looked back since.
