Yankee Legend Roger Maris Added to Upper Deck’s Baseball Roster
He’s a player who galvanized the nation by breaking one of the most storied records of all-time by besting Babe Ruth’s home-run record with 61 round-trippers in 1961. Roger Maris did much more than that, however, as a member of the thunderous Yankees lineup as he was twice named the American League’s MVP (1960 and ’61) and finished his career with three World Series rings.
Earlier this week Upper Deck announced a newly signed agreement with Roger Maris’ estate that gives them the rights to include the Bronx Bomber legend in their baseball card product. Collectors can find Roger Maris cards in six of Upper Deck’s 2010 baseball releases. Maris cards featured in the products will include game used memorabilia and cut autograph cards from the deceased home run hero.
“Maris was an amazing player who lived in the shadows of other legends until that special season in 1961,” said Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck’s baseball brand manager. “His achievements cannot be disputed and as a storied member of the Bronx Bombers, he remains in high demand with collectors. In particular, we’re excited about some combo opportunities with Roger Maris and Joe DiMaggio together on the same card.”
