Richard Dent to Hold Sports Memorabilia Fundraiser to Benefit Charity
In honor of his upcoming NFL Hall of Fame inauguration, long-time Chicago Bear Richard Dent will be celebrated at Carnivale Restaurant in Chicago.
The event will raise money for Dent's own charity, Make a Dent Foundation. The organization has raised hundreds of the thousands of dollars for disadvantaged youths and community developments and the latest upcoming event looks to significantly add to that total. Notable guests include Marcus Allen, Otis Wilson, Andre Dawson, Julius Erving and Doug Williams. There will also both a silent auction and a live auction at the event in which a slew of valuable sports memorabilia will be available to the highest bidders.
Dent played most of his career with the Bears, but played for 4 other teams in his last 4 seasons, eventually retiring in 1997. When he left the game his 137.5 total sacks landed him in 3rd place all-time for total sacks, behind only Bruce Smith and Reggie White. He has been eligible for inclusion in the HOF for several years and finished in the top 15 in voting from 2005-2009 before finally being voted in this year along with Marshall Faulk, Deion Sanders, Shannon Sharpe, Chris Hanburger, Les Richter and Ed Sabol. The official induction will take place on August 6th, 2011 in Canton, OH.
