2009 Topps Updates and Highlights Baseball

Average Price Range: $45-$58

Good: Plenty of value, inexpensive and lots of variety.

Bad: Autographs are few and far between. Some of the inserts are a little redundant

The Bottom Line: A fitting final installment to the best Topps baseball card set in recent memory.

Design
There isn't much new to talk about in regards to 2009 Topps Updates and Highlights Baseball's design. Both the base cards and inserts are essentially a continuation of 2009 Topps Series 1 and 2 baseball, so if you liked the look of those releases you will undoubtedly like what you see out of Updates and Highlights.

Checklist
2009 Topps Updates and Highlights has Series 1 and 2 beat from a rookie standpoint. In one box alone I pulled rookie cards of Gordon Beckham, Andrew McCutchen, Tommy Hanson, Derek Holland and Mat Latos, not to mention several other key rookies.

The Topps Turkey Red and Legends of the Game Inserts are both top notch. Together they make one of the most formidable insert set duos of the year.

The autographs are definitely lacking, but this really didn't bother me much. Having guaranteed autos seeded on a per box basis would have driven the price of 2009 Topps Updates and Highlights hobby boxes up considerably, and I think that would be a big mistake. The marketplace needs some low budget value packed products like this that allow kids and budget conscious adults to participate in and enjoy sports card collecting.

Value
At under $50 per hobby box, 2009 Topps Updates and Highlights Baseball is a great value. At this modest a price point you will be hard pressed to find a better baseball product.

Enjoyability
Updates and Highlights has both the pack count and the card volume needed to provide nice long box breaks. About half way through the break the allure of the base set started to fade, but the multitude of quality inserts still kept things fun and interesting.
