Rookie Card Year: 2013
Investment Rating: 7.0
While the Dodgers have spared no expense in putting together a roster of big names, it's the fresh faces that are really making a stir in Los Angeles. One of them is South Korean pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu, who is putting together a strong rookie campaign. As a result, Hyun-jin Ryu rookie cards are drawing a fair bit of attention from both the Dodgers' faithful and the international market.
Hyun-jin Ryu was a key part in South Korea's gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. He pitched a complete game shutout against Canada early in the tournament. In the gold medal game versus Cuba, he lasted 8 1/3 innings and gave up just a pair of runs. The Dodgers secured Hyun-jin Ryu's rights following the 2012 season. They signed him to a six-year deal a couple of weeks before Christmas.
While Hyun-jin Ryu rookies come from 2013 baseball card products, they're not his first. Having participated in the World Baseball Classic, Topps squeezed a couple of memorabilia cards into 2009 products. He has a basic relic card in 2009 Bowman Sterling (along with several Refractor parallels) as well as a jumbo swatch card in 2009 Topps Unique that is numbered to 40.

Supply should never be an issue for the 2013 Bowman Hyun-jin Ryu rookie card. It's an affordable option that is actually simple and clean. It may lack pop and value, but it's a solid choice for those simply looking for a rookie. The pitcher also has several parallels and inserts in 2013 Bowman. The top one is Lucky Redemption #1, which is good for an autograph.
Taking the design of 1990 Topps Baseball, this rookie should never carry a huge price tag. Further lending to the old-school appeal is the lack of gloss. For those looking for a more valuable version, there's a Day Glow Orange parallel available only in special packs given out during a short hobby shop promotion.
Coming from a high-end set, this rookie carries a bit of a premium. However, because it's not numbered or with any other major selling points, it remains modestly priced.
