Hope Solo is the current goalkeeper for the USA Women's National team and is coming off a star-making World Cup run, despite losing to Japan on penalty kicks. Solo won the Golden Glove Award for best goalkeeper, and the Bronze Ball Award for her overall performance. She was also selected to the tournament's All-Star team.
A four-time All-Pac-10 selection and a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American at the University of Washington, she is the team's all-time leader in shutouts, saves, and goals against average. The pinnacle of her success came in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China where she led the team to a gold medal against Brazil, making several saves while repelling an aggressive Brazilian attack.
