Buster Posey Baseball Cards: Rookie Cards Checklist and Buying Guide

Buster Posey Baseball Cards: Rookie Cards Checklist and Buying Guide

Buster Posey was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the fifth overall pick in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. Fast-tracking through the team’s farm system, Posey made his major league debut on September 11, 2009. He began 2010 in the minors but rejoined the Giants on May 29, becoming their everyday catcher. Posey’s stellar rookie campaign was rewarded with him being named the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year. He also helped lead San Francisco to a World Series victory.

Posey displays all the characteristics of the quintessential five-tool player. His ability to hit for power and average were displayed early on in his pro career and led to his quick rise to the majors. His abilities behind the plate have already earned him the Johnny Bench Award and he is almost assured of being a future Gold Glover at the position.

Buster Posey baseball cards fall into two categories, which can be confusing for collectors. Some of his most valuable cards aren’t even true rookie cards by traditional definitions, but instead are his prospect cards from 2008 and 2009. His first “officially” designated rookie cards are from the 2010 season. Because of the redundant nature of many prospects cards from 2008 and 2009, below you will find Posey’s key 2008 prospect cards.
