Albert Pujols Baseball Cards: Rookie Cards Checklist and Buying Guide
An intimidating presence on the field, Albert Pujols at 6' 3" and 230 lbs has earned the distinction of being considered baseball's most feared hitter, according to an ESPN poll of all 30 big league managers. Albert Pujols baseball cards are regarded with equally elite status among collectors. Of all active players, Pujols ranks atop the leader board for average (.328) and slugging percentage (.624). Already a nine-time All-Star, and three-time National League Most Valuable Player, Pujols is in the prime of his career and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Big league teams, initially, showed very little interest in Pujols, who entered the draft directly out of high school. He was selected in the 13th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. He started the 2000 season playing for the Cardinals Single-A affiliate in the Midwest League, the Peoria Chiefs, where he earned league MVP honors. He quickly rose through the organization and the following year was named MLB's NL Rookie of the Year.
Pujols has already amassed career stats that exceed most retired players. This multiple-time Silver Slugger Award winner and two-time World Series Champion is a collector favorite because of the immediate impact he made. He has made fans and collectors across the country take notice, which has created incredible demand for his rookie cards.
After leading the Cardinals to the 2011 World Series, Pujols became a free agent and signed with the Angels.
All of Albert Pujols' rookie cards hail from 2001 with his autographed 2001 Bowman Chrome #340 being the most valuable. Limited to only 500 copies, graded versions have sold for five figures. It's a card that is considered a must have for the die-hard Pujols collector. It's also worth noting that the card was a redemption, which means there's none lurking in packs. Fortunately for those without deep pockets, he has several other rookie cards to choose from at varying prices.
