Super Prospect Mike Trout Receives Topps Minor League Player of the Year Award
Angels hobby heavy hitting prospect Mike Trout was announced earlier today as the winner of the 51st annual J.G. Taylor Spink Award as the Topps Minor League Player of the Year. At just 19 years and two months old, Trout is youngest player to win the Spink Award, topping Andruw Jones who won the award in 1996 at the age of 19 years and six months old.
Trout batter a combined .341 with the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Trout, who could very well enter 2011 as Baseball's top prospect commented on the prestigious accolade.
"Before the season started, I was talking to my dad about all these awards I could get and all the hard work has paid off and getting all this recognition is great," Trout said.
For those who are into prospecting, Mike Trout's 2009 Bowman Chrome, 2009 Bowman Sterling, and 2009 Donruss Elite Autos would make for a fine addition to any collection.
