Reality Check: New Sports Memorabilia Show Coming to Discovery Channel
Perhaps more a sign of the new awareness attributed to high-value vintage collectibles and less of an overall collecting resurgence, the hobby`s coming to TV. And no, Don West isn`t making comeback with infomercials. Grey Flannel Auctions has announced they will be featured on an upcoming sports memorabilia reality show on The Discovery Channel.
Although the idea of a television show based on the hobby might seem far-fetched, shows like History Channel`s American Pickers and Storage Wars on A&E have shown that viewers enjoy the idea of finding value in unlikely places. Both are among the most popular shows on their respective channels. American Pickers regularly attracts 3 to 7 million viewers and Storage Wars checks in just below that, in the 2 to 6 million range.
The unnamed show will be begin airing in October and will center around sports collectibles and memorabilia of significance that also have interesting stories behind them. Grey Flannel is still looking for additions from private collectors.
